The questioner : The message I have in front of me is long; it was sent from Syria by Amjad. He says, "My father passed away while he was not pleased with me, and I was fifteen years old at the time. Because I was on the path of Satan, in violation and sin, when I reached twenty I returned to Allah, to my religion, and to my prayers. My condition changed, and regret took its toll on me because of my father's displeasure with me. Now I am a young man who has returned to Allah, O honorable Shaykh, and I live with my mother, who is the only one I have left in this world. Not a day passes without me weeping bitterly over my negligence when I read about dutifulness to parents. But what reassures me, O honorable Shaykh, is that I have lived with the Book of Allah as my only companion in this world. I find comfort in its recitation, worshipping Allah (Mighty and Majestic), and my heart becomes calm, my limbs settle, and the sadness and grief leave me. I remember my father who passed away while not pleased with me. My only consolation, O honorable Shaykh, in this world is that I have dedicated my effort to loving my mother, participating in good deeds, and calling to Allah, hoping that my Lord will accept my repentance."
The questioner: I did not speak about my father, for he was among those whom Allah blessed with obedience, worship, love for people, and giving good to those in need. Is there any advice, O honorable Shaykh, that will reassure me? May Allah reward you.

The Shaykh : Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and I send prayers and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and his Companions, and those who follow them in excellence until the Day of Judgment. It is said that dates are not brought to Hijr. The condition of the man we heard is a good condition; no advisor, no matter how much he advises, can bring the advised one to such a condition as he described about himself. I congratulate him that it is a good condition. I hope that Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) will wipe away with it what has passed of his sins, his transgressions, and his negligence toward his father. And I say to him: You have read the saying of Allah (Mighty and Majestic):
(53) Say, "O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful." (54) And return [in repentance] to your Lord and submit to Him before the punishment comes upon you; then you will not be helped. (55) And follow the best of what was revealed to you from your Lord before the punishment comes upon you suddenly while you do not perceive,
[Az-Zumar 39:53-55]
.
And I hope that this description applies to him, that he has turned back to Allah and submitted to Him. I ask Allah for steadfastness in His religion for me and for him until death.

The questioner : O Allah, amen.

The Shaykh : I say: Congratulations to him for what Allah has granted him of this return to his Lord (Mighty and Majestic), and his uprightness in His religion, his dutifulness to his mother, and his love for good. I ask Allah to increase him in His bounty.

The questioner : O Allah, amen.

The Shaykh : And that He grant me, and him, and my brothers the listeners, and all Muslims, what we hope for of victory in this world and honor, and of dignity in the Hereafter. Indeed, He is capable of all things. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah bless you.
