The questioner : A questioner says: I had intercourse with my wife during the day in Ramadan, and that was on days when I was not praying except a little. I am now upright, praise be to Allah, and I have repented to Allah the Exalted. So what is my obligation?

The Shaykh : You must repent to Allah, feel remorse for what you did, and not return to it in the future. You are obligated to make up the fasts of Ramadan, according to the majority of scholars. Some scholars said, “Making up the fasts is not obligatory in this case, because anyone who intentionally performs a time-bound act of worship after its time has passed, it does not benefit him”; the prayer does not benefit him, meaning the making up of the fasts. He is also obligated to make up the fasts because he delayed them without a valid legal excuse.
