A Word on Hastening to Make Up the Fasting of Ramadan

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And I point out an important matter to those who have missed fasts from last Ramadan: they must hasten to make them up before the coming Ramadan, because the scholars say it is not permissible for a person to delay making up the fasts of Ramadan until the next Ramadan unless he has an excuse. This is based on the statement of the Mother of the Believers, Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her): “I used to have fasts to make up from Ramadan, and I was not able to make them up except in Sha'ban”. This indicates that the last month for making up the fasts is Sha'ban. The scholars said: Whoever delays making up the fasts of Ramadan until the next Ramadan without an excuse is sinful. Some of them held the view that he must make up the fasts and feed one poor person for each day, but the stronger view is that he is only required to make up the fasts, based on the saying of Allah the Exalted:
and whoever is ill or on a journey - then an equal number of other days ومن كان مريضًا أو على سفر فعدة من أيام أخر
[Al-Baqarah 2:185]
, and Allah the Exalted did not mention anything other than that. The important thing is that whoever has fasts to make up should hasten to do so before Ramadan arrives, and he should seek help from Allah, not be lazy, and not be weak. The days, praise be to Allah, are suitable at this time: no heat, no cold, and not too long. I ask Allah the Exalted to help me and you all to remember Him, thank Him, and worship Him well.
And know that the best of speech is the Book of Allah, the best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and the worst of matters are those that are newly invented, and every newly invented matter in the religion of Allah is a religious innovation, and every religious innovation is misguidance. So hold fast to the community, and by community I mean uniting on the religion of Allah without division in it. This is what Allah has commanded you in His saying, Blessed and Exalted is He:
He has ordained for you of religion what He enjoined upon Noah and that which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], and what We enjoined upon Abraham and Moses and Jesus - to establish the religion and not be divided therein شرع لكم من الدين ما وصى به نوحًا والذين أوحينا إليك وما وصينا به إبراهيم وموسى وعيسى أن أقيموا الدين ولا تتفرقوا فيه
[Ash-Shuraa 42:13]
. And among this is gathering in the mosques for the five daily prayers, for that is among the most obligatory and best of gatherings. Whoever guards the prayers and persists in them should be glad that he is among the people of Paradise. Allah Mighty and Majestic said:
(1) Certainly will the believers have succeeded: (2) They who are during their prayer humbly submissive (3) And they who turn away from ill speech (4) And they who are observant of zakah (5) And they who guard their private parts (6) Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they will not be blamed - (7) But whoever seeks beyond that, then those are the transgressors - (8) And they who are to their trusts and their promises attentive (9) And they who carefully maintain their prayers - (10) Those are the inheritors (11) Who will inherit al-Firdaus. They will abide therein eternally.
[Al-Mu'minun 23:1-11]
. O Allah, make us among these people. O Allah, make us among these people. O Allah, make us among these people. O Allah, send blessings and peace upon Your servant and Your messenger Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions.
