Those are upon guidance from their Lord, and those are the successful ones
أولئك على هدى من ربهم وأولئك هم المفلحون
“Those” refers to the righteous ones who believe in what has preceded.
upon guidance from their Lord
على هدى من ربهم
That is, they are upon a path from Allah, Mighty and Majestic. He said:
from their Lord
من ربهم
“from their Lord” is for the purpose of conveying that Allah’s favor upon them with this is a special favor; it is a special lordship for them, not the general lordship.
and those are the successful ones
وأولئك هم المفلحون
“Those” is repeated to highlight their virtue and the highness of their rank. As for His saying:
they are the successful ones
هم المفلحون
the scholars say that “they” here is a separating pronoun (dhamir al-fasl), which is a pronoun that has no grammatical position in the sentence because it is only used for emphasis. They said: its benefits are three. The first benefit is emphasis, the second is restriction, which is specification, and the third is conveying that what follows it is a statement (khabar) and not a description. For this reason, it is called a separating pronoun. This means that success is restricted to them, and success is attaining what is sought and being saved from what is feared.
