The Shaykh : And this was the prayer of the hypocrite because prayer is heavy for the hypocrite, so you find him saying, "Now, now," until the sun is between the horns of the devil, which is at its setting. Then he stands and pecks it off in four [units]. He described the pecking as the pecking of a crow or the pecking of a rooster, meaning he does not settle down or become calm. For this reason, he said:Jami` at-Tirmidhi 160Sahih (Darussalam) In this is evidence that if the imam delays the prayer from the preferred time, it is obligatory for the people to pray as long as the preferred time remains, because Anas ordered them to pray, saying, "Then pray the afternoon prayer." And so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered regarding the prayer behind imams who kill it off from its time, saying: so that they do not oppose the congregation, and so that their prayer at the beginning of the time is the prescribed one, and their prayer with them is so that they do not separate from the congregation.
