The Shaykh : And this cause is clear, contrary to those who said that it is a devotional act, or to those who said it is because of the boasting and arrogance involved in it, and the breaking of the hearts of the poor, and the restriction of the two currencies. We say: The Messenger explained it with a clear cause, meaning that this abode is not our abode, so it is not befitting for us to indulge in luxury to this extent. Rather, those who indulge in luxury to this extent are the disbelievers, who have nothing but the life of this world. As for us, our life is the life of the Hereafter, so it is not befitting for us to enjoy the world to this extent. Furthermore, eating and drinking from these vessels instills in the heart arrogance, grandeur, pride, and vanity that are not found in anything else. Glory be to Allah. And this is also part of the wisdom. If a person acquires this, and may Allah protect us from it, namely arrogance, grandeur, and boasting, he may be deprived of entering Paradise, as the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sahih Muslim 91b Yes.
