The reciter: Al-Salt ibn Muhammad narrated to us, and Hammad ibn Zayd narrated to us from al-Ja'd Abu Uthman from Anas, and from Hisham from Muhammad from Anas, and from Sinan Abu Rabi'ah from Anas:
The Shaykh : The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) only brought them in ten by ten so that they would not crowd each other and overwhelm the food.
That his mother, Umm Sulaym, took a mudd of barley, ground it, and made a flatbread from it, and she squeezed a gourd of water that was with her. Then she sent me to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I came to him while he was with his companions and invited him. He said: "Who is with me?" I came back and said: "He is asking, 'Who is with me?'" Abu Talhah went out to him and said: "O Messenger of Allah, it is only something that Umm Sulaym made." He entered, and it was brought in. He said: "Bring in ten people." They entered and ate until they were full. Then he said: "Bring in ten people." They entered and ate until they were full. Then he said: "Bring in ten people" until he counted forty. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ate, then he stood up, and I kept looking to see if anything had decreased from it.
The Shaykh : The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) only brought them in ten by ten so that they would not crowd each other and overwhelm the food.
