What is the ruling on applying verses to things other than what they were intended for, or citing them as evidence for matters that do not resemble the original context?

The questioner : May Allah reward you, esteemed Shaykh. I read an article by one of the writers discussing desalination projects, and he praises them, saying: "It was fitting that these salty waters were desalinated, and water came down from the sky, so the waters met by a matter already decreed". I do not know what the ruling is on this phrase, and he praises the one who said this!

The Shaykh : I see that this is not appropriate. One should not cite what was revealed as a punishment for what happened as a mercy, because "the waters met by a matter already decreed" refers to the water of punishment. How can one cite it for water to which Allah the Exalted made access easy, a blessing from Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He?!
But this is like what some people say now when they complete a project, saying:
And say, "Do [as you will], for Allah will see your deeds, and [so, will] His Messenger and the believers وقل اعملوا فسيرى الله عملكم ورسوله والمؤمنون
[At-Tawbah 9:105]
This is a mistake. First: because this verse was revealed regarding whom? Regarding the hypocrites: "Work, and your affair will not be hidden."
Second:
for Allah will see your deeds, and [so, will] His Messenger فسيرى الله عملكم ورسوله
[At-Tawbah 9:105]
Is it possible that the Messenger sees what is happening now?
It is not possible. But ignorance, and applying verses to things other than what they were intended for, or citing them as evidence for matters that do not resemble the original context, is undoubtedly a mistake.
Shaykh Abu Bakr al-Jazairi, may Allah reward him, visited the Qasim region these past two days. We ask Allah to reward his efforts and to make him beneficial. He has a lecture, if Allah wills, tomorrow Friday after the 'Asr prayer at al-Salhiyyah Mosque, and tonight in al-Ras after Maghrib. I encourage attending his lectures because they are beneficial.
