The reader: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah, and may peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah. He said, may Allah have mercy on him: Chapter: The likeness of this world in the Hereafter. And His saying, the Exalted:[Al-Hadid 57:20].
The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. In these verses, Allah, Mighty and Majestic, clarifies that the life of this world is play and amusement: play in the body, amusement in the heart, adornment in appearance, and boasting in speech, where each person boasts over the other and elevates himself above him; and competition in wealth and children, where each says, “I have more wealth than you,” or “I have more children than you,” or “I have a more noble group.” And its likeness is[Al-Hadid 57:20]. “Rain” means rain. “Whose growth delights the farmers” means what grew from it. It is said that “the farmers” are those who disbelieved in Allah, because nothing from this world delights them except sights like this. It is also said that the “farmer” is the sower. And His saying, “then it withers,” means it melts away after it was fresh, vigorous, and moist. Then you see it yellowed: it turns yellow. Then it becomes broken stubble, crushed by hands and feet. This is the likeness of this world: it rises, flourishes, beautifies, and prospers, and then it is overturned, having departed from its end, or the person has departed from it. Therefore, what you have of this world, either it departs from you, or you depart from it, and there is no third option. Allah, the Exalted, said: [Al-Hadid 57:20]. Severe punishment for whoever prefers this life, which is play and amusement, adornment, and boasting; and approval from Allah for whoever prefers the Hereafter over this world. Allah, the Exalted, said: [Al-A'la 87:16-17]. And the life of this world—look at the restriction—[Ali 'Imran 3:185]. The entire life is nothing but the enjoyment of delusion; its owner is deluded by it for a period of time, then it departs. So it is delusion that deceives its owner, and he is deceived by it, and then he falls, having been stripped of it.
Praise be to Allah, and may peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah. He said, may Allah have mercy on him: Chapter: The likeness of this world in the Hereafter. And His saying, the Exalted:
Know that the life of this world is but amusement and diversion and adornment and boasting to one another and competition in increase of wealth and children - like the example of a rain whose [resulting] plant growth pleases the tillers; then it dries and you see it turned yellow; then it becomes [scattered] debris. And in the Hereafter is severe punishment and forgiveness from Allah and approval. And what is the worldly life except the enjoyment of delusion.
The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
