The questioner : May Allah preserve you, I inform you that my mother, may Allah prolong her life in goodness and obedience, has passed the age of sixty-five. Her body has weakened, but, praise be to Allah, she has good eyesight and the ability to walk. I wish to perform the obligatory Hajj on her behalf, if Allah wills, especially since she cannot bear the crowds or walk long distances. Out of compassion for her and love for doing good deeds and drawing near to the Lord, Mighty and Majestic, through obedience to parents, I wish to perform this obligation on her behalf. I also inform you that, praise be to Allah, I have succeeded in performing the Hajj that is obligatory upon me. We ask Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, to accept from us and from you righteous deeds. Is it permissible for me to perform the obligatory Hajj on her behalf, given the situation described? May Allah bless you.
The Shaykh : Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and I send prayers and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow them with excellence until the Day of Judgment:
If your mother is in this condition, unable to reach Makkah and perform the rites of Hajj except with great difficulty, there is no harm in performing the obligation on her behalf. This is based on what is established in the two Sahihs from Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him): This was during the Farewell Pilgrimage. Therefore, there is no blame on you for making up the obligatory Hajj for your mother.
