The questioner : What is the ruling on one who says aloud after every adhan:
Indeed, Allah confers blessing upon the Prophet, and His angels [ask Him to do so]. O you who have believed, ask [Allah to confer] blessing upon him and ask [Allah to grant him] peace.
[Al-Ahzab 33:56]
and that is with a loud voice, and may Allah reward you with good?

The Shaykh : This is a bid'ah (religious innovation), for it is not reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he ordered this, nor that it was done in his time, nor that it was done in the era of the Rightly Guided Caliphs. The Sunnah is that the mu'adhdhin (the one who calls to prayer) should limit himself to the adhan, which begins with: Allahu Akbar, and ends with: La ilaha illa Allah, then he should stop and cease, and after that he should send blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) to himself without raising his voice before the people, and he should make the famous supplication:
O Allah, the Lord of this complete call and of this prayer, which is going to be established! Give Muhammad Al-Wasila and Al-Fadila and raise him to Al-Maqam-al-Mahmud which You have promised him اللهم رب هذه الدعوة التامة، والصلاة القائمة، آت محمداً الوسيلة والفضيلة، وابعثه مقاماً محموداً الذي وعدته، إنك لا تخلف الميعاد
Sahih al-Bukhari 4719
.
Likewise, the listeners of the adhan should follow the mu'adhdhin and say what he says, except for: Hayya 'ala al-salah, Hayya 'ala al-falah, where they should say: La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah, then they should send blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and then they should say the supplication I just mentioned.

The questioner : May Allah bless you.
