The questioner : Allah says to the one who recites the Qur'an:
Read and ascend اقرأ وارق

The Shaykh : What?

The questioner : Allah says to the one who recites the Qur'an:
Read and ascend اقرأ وارق

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : Is the intended meaning of this recitation by looking at the mushaf or from memory?

The Shaykh : The texts regarding the virtue of reciting the Qur'an include reciting it by looking at the mushaf and reciting it from memory, because if the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had intended only memorization, he would have said: "Whoever recites from memory." Since he did not restrict it, it is obligatory to state it in general terms, and we should say: Whoever recites from the mushaf or from memory, he will receive the reward established for the one who recites the Qur'an.
