The questioner : My question is that in Ramadan of the year 1398 AH, I was newly married, and I had intercourse with my wife three times during intermittent periods of the daytime in Ramadan. What should I do? Is there an expiation upon me? And if there is an expiation upon me, do I have to fast for each day, two consecutive months? In that case, I would be in difficulty because I would need six consecutive months. Please advise us, may Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds. After that, it is obligatory for a person who believes in Allah and the Last Day to use his reason in what he does and what he leaves, and not to be overcome by his desire until he falls into what Allah has forbidden. A married man, even if he is newly married, how can he not control himself for a short period, which is during the day? But desire and lust may control a person of reason until he falls into a matter of which he regrets.
This matter that you did, which is having intercourse with your wife in Ramadan, has two aspects. The first aspect is from your side. It is obligatory for you to expiate by freeing a slave if you find one, and you will not find one in our present time. So you move to the second level, which is fasting for two consecutive months. If you are unable to do so, you feed sixty poor people.
If this matter repeated from you on multiple days, the scholars differed on whether one expiation is sufficient for the three days, or if there is an expiation for each day. Some of them hold that it is obligatory for you to have an expiation for each day, because each day is an independent act of worship from the other day, because this act of worship is not invalidated by the invalidation of the second day, nor completed by the completion of the second day. So it is an independent act of worship. If he violates the sanctity of a day, its expiation becomes obligatory upon him. If he violates the sanctity of a second day, a second expiation becomes obligatory upon him. If he violates the sanctity of a third day, a third expiation becomes obligatory upon him, and so on.
Some of the scholars say that only one expiation is obligatory upon you, because these are expiations of the same type, and all expiations of the same type, if one does not expiate for the first of them, they overlap, just as if a person were to have multiple incidents of different types.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : The precaution for you is to expiate for each day with an expiation, because that is safer for your conscience. But we do not say this on the basis of obligation, but on the basis of precaution. If the matter is difficult for you, one expiation is sufficient for you. Yes.

The questioner : Also, the listener Q A Q from Al-Khabar from the Eastern Region says.
