Benefits of the Hadith: (… from Abu Hurayrah from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) who said: “Whoever stands in prayer on the Night of Decree and coincides with it…”)

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The hadith before this, the first one, is the hadith of Abu Hurayrah, which he qualified with the phrase “and coincides with it.” This does not become certain that he coincided with it except if.
The reader: He stood in prayer for it.

The Shaykh : He stood in prayer for all ten nights, because if he stands in prayer for only part of the ten, the night might be in the nights he did not stand in prayer for. And at that point, it becomes certain for the person who wants to coincide with the Night of Decree that he must stand in prayer for all ten nights. As for what came in the authentic hadith that a group of the Companions saw the Night of Decree in the last seven nights, he said:
I see that your visions agree about the last seven days, so whoever is searching for it should do so in the last seven days. أرى رؤياكم قد تواترت في السبع الأواخر فمن كان متحريها فليتحراها في السبع الأواخر
Muwatta Malik 19:16
The apparent meaning is that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) intended only that year, as evidenced by the fact that he continued to stand in prayer for all of the last ten nights and to perform i'tikaf (spiritual retreat in the mosque) for all of the last ten nights. So the apparent meaning is that in that year, it became in the last seven nights, meaning from the twenty-third night onward.
