What is the meaning of your statement that the evidence is not what is claimed in the hadith of Waqid ibn 'Amr ibn Sa'd ibn Mu'adh, in which he said: Nafi' ibn Jubayr saw me standing while we were at a funeral, and he had sat down waiting for the funeral to be placed, so he said to me: What is keeping you standing? I said: I am waiting for the funeral to be placed for what Abu Sa'id al-Khudri will narrate.

The questioner : Your statement that the evidence is not what is claimed?

The Shaykh : Look: He says: Nafi' ibn Jubayr saw me standing while we were at a funeral, and he had sat down waiting for the funeral to be placed, so he said to me: What is keeping you standing? I said: I am waiting for the funeral to be placed. Is the man now a follower, or was he sitting and then stood up when it passed by him? He is standing waiting for the funeral until it is placed; he did not stand up because it passed by him. He says: For what Abu Sa'id al-Khudri will narrate. So Nafi' said: Mus'ud ibn al-Hakim narrated to him from 'Ali ibn Abi Talib that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up, then sat down. This hadith: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up, then sat down. When? When it passed by him. Is it clear? Did it become clear to you? These are two issues: The first issue: When it passes by him, does he stand up or not? 'Ali ibn Abi Talib said that he stood up and then sat down. The second issue: If he is a follower of it, does he sit down before it is placed or not? The issue that occurred between Nafi' and Waqid: Is it about when it passes by him, or about when he sits down before it is placed? Which one? This is it. Yes.
