The reciter: Sahl ibn Uthman, and Abu Kuraib, Muhammad ibn al-Alla, both narrated to us from Abu Mu'awiyah. Abu Kuraib said: Abu Mu'awiyah narrated to us from al-A'mash from Abu Salih from Abu Hurayrah, or from Abu Sa'id—al-A'mash was uncertain—which said:
When the expedition to Tabuk took place, the people were struck by famine. They said: O Messenger of Allah, if you would permit us, we would slaughter our water-camels, eat their meat, and anoint ourselves with their fat. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do so. Then 'Umar came and said: O Messenger of Allah, if you do that, the back will be diminished. But call them with the surplus of their provisions, then invoke Allah for them with a blessing upon it, perhaps Allah will make something of it. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Yes. So he called for a mat and spread it out, then called for the surplus of their provisions. A man would come with a handful of barley, another with a handful of dates, and another with a piece of bread, until a small amount of it gathered on the mat. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) invoked a blessing upon it, then said: Take it in your containers. So they took it in their containers until they left no container in the camp but they filled it. They ate until they were full, and there was a surplus. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and that I am the Messenger of Allah. No servant who meets Allah with these two, not doubting them, will be barred from Paradise.
لما كان غزوة تبوك أصاب الناس مجاعة ، قالوا : يا رسول الله ، لو أذنت لنا فنحرنا نواضحنا ، فأكلنا وادهنا ، فقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : افعلوا ، قال : فجاء عمر ، فقال : يا رسول الله ، إن فعلت قل الظهر ، ولكن ادعهم بفضل أزوادهم ، ثم ادع الله لهم عليها بالبركة ، لعل الله أن يجعل في ذلك ، فقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : نعم ، قال : فدعا بنطع فبسطه ، ثم دعا بفضل أزوادهم ، قال : فجعل الرجل يجيء بكف ذرة ، قال : ويجيء الآخر بكف تمر ، قال : ويجيء الآخر بكسرة حتى اجتمع على النطع من ذلك شيء يسير ، قال : فدعا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم عليه بالبركة ، ثم قال : خذوا في أوعيتكم ، قال : فأخذوا في أوعيتهم ، حتى ما تركوا في العسكر وعاء إلا ملئوه ، قال : فأكلوا حتى شبعوا ، وفضلت فضلة ، فقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : أشهد أن لا إله إلا الله ، وأني رسول الله ، لا يلقى الله بهما عبد غير شاك، فيحجب عن الجنة
