The Reciter: Shiban ibn Furukh narrated to us, Sulayman ibn al-Mughirah narrated to us, Thabit al-Bunani narrated to us from Abdullah ibn Rabi'ah from Abu Hurayrah, who said:
Deputations came to Mu'awiyah, and that was in Ramadan. We used to prepare food for one another, and Abu Hurayrah was among those who frequently invited us to his tent. I said, "Shall I prepare food and invite them to my tent?" I ordered food to be prepared, then I met Abu Hurayrah in the evening and said, "The invitation is at my place tonight." He said, "You have beaten me to it." I said, "Yes." So I invited them. Abu Hurayrah said, "Shall I inform you of a report from your reports, O people of the Ansar?" Then he mentioned the Conquest of Makkah. He said, "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) advanced until he arrived in Makkah. He sent al-Zubayr to one of the flanks, and sent Khalid to the other flank, and sent Abu 'Ubaydah to the Husar. They took the bottom of the valley, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was in a detachment. He looked at me, and Abu Hurayrah said, 'I said, "At your service, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "Let no one come to me except an Ansari" – added by other than Shayban – and he said, "Call out for the Ansar." They gathered around him. Quraysh sent out their rabble and their followers, and they said, "We will put these men forward; if they gain something, we will be with them, and if they are defeated, we will give what we are asked for." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Do you see the rabble of Quraysh and their followers?" Then he placed one hand over the other and said, "Until you meet me at al-Safa." We set out, and no one among us wished to kill anyone but he killed him, and none of them directed anything toward us. Abu Sufyan came and said, "O Messenger of Allah, the green of Quraysh has been permitted [to be taken]; there is no Quraysh after today." Then he said, "Whoever enters the house of Abu Sufyan is safe." The Ansar said to one another, "As for the man, he was overcome by desire for his village and compassion for his kin."

Abu Hurayrah said:
Abu Huraira said: (At this moment) revelation came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and when he was going to receive the Revelation, we understood it, and when he was (actually) receiving it, none of us would dare raise his eyes to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) until the revelation came to an end. When the revelation came to an end, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: O ye Assembly of the Ansar! They said: Here we are at your disposal, Messenger of Allah. He said: You were saying that love for his city and tenderness towards his people have overpowered this man. They said: So it was. He said: No, never. I am a bondman of God and His Messenger. I migrated towards God and towards you. I will live with you and will die with you. So, they (the Ansar) turned towards him in tears and they were saying: By Allah, we said what we said because of our tenacious attachment to Allah and His Messenger. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Surely, Allah and His Messenger testify to your assertions and accept your apology. The narrator continued: People turned to the house of Abu Sufyan and people locked their doors. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) proceeded until he approached the (Black) Stone. He kissed it and circumambulated the Ka'ba. He reached near an idol by the side of the Ka'ba which was worshipped by the people. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) had a bow in his hand, and he was holding it from a corner. When he came near the idol, he began to pierce its eyes with the bow and (while doing so) was saying: Truth has been established and falsehood has perished. When he had finished the circumambulation, he came to Safa', ascended it to a height from where he could see the Ka'ba, raised his hands (in prayer) and began to praise Allah and prayed what he wanted to pray.
Sahih Muslim 1780a

The Shaykh : There are several points of discussion in this hadith:
First: The Battle of the Conquest took place in Ramadan, and it was in the eighth year, meaning before the end of the treaty period between the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and the polytheists. The period was ten years, but Quraysh broke the treaty by helping the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) allies against the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) allies. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) attacked them in Ramadan, and Allah granted him the conquest of Makkah, and praise be to Allah.
But in this hadith there are points of discussion; we will read it from the beginning:
The Reciter: Abu Hurayrah said:
Shall I inform you of a report from your reports, O people of the Ansar? Then he mentioned the Conquest of Makkah. He said, "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) advanced until he arrived in Makkah. He sent al-Zubayr to one of the flanks, and sent Khalid to the other flank, and sent Abu 'Ubaydah to the Husar."
.

The Shaykh : The flanks, meaning those on the side of the army, and the al-Husar, who appear to me to mean those who have no weapons. We look at the explanation.
The Reciter: "Al-Husar: those who have no armor".

The Shaykh : They have no armor, yes.
The reciter:
They took the bottom of the valley, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was in a detachment. He looked at me, and Abu Hurayrah said, "I said, 'At your service, O Messenger of Allah.' He said, 'Let no one come to me except an Ansari' – added by other than Shayban – and he said, 'Call out for the Ansar.'"
.

The Shaykh : The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did this as he did at Badr, when Abu Bakr and 'Umar spoke, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) turned away from them, because the Ansar had only pledged allegiance to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) to defend him in al-Madinah. So he wanted to be certain of their loyalty, because they were now in Makkah, and previously in Badr. He (may the prayers and peace of Allah be upon him) wanted to see what was in their hearts, and they (may Allah be pleased with them) were loyal.
The Reader:
So they gathered round him. The Quraish also gathered their ruffians and their (lowly) followers, and said: We send these forward. If they get anything, we shall be with them (to share it), and if misfortune befalls them, we shall pay (as compensation) whatever we are asked for. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said (to the Ansar): You see the ruffians and the (lowly) followers of the Quraish. And he indicated by (striking) one of his hands over the other
Sahih Muslim 1780a
.

The Shaykh : What is the description of this?
The Reciter: Al-Nawawi said: "Meaning he gestured to their gathered formation,".

The Shaykh : Read the text...
The Reciter: "His saying: 'Then he said with his hands, one over the other,' contains a metaphor of action for speech, and the intended meaning is that he gestured with his hands in a gesture indicating his (peace and blessings be upon him) command to kill those of the rabble of Quraysh who opposed them".

The Shaykh : ...
The Reciter: And here is a note on the marginalia: "His saying: 'Then he said with his hands, one over the other': Mow them down, he gestured to kill them" in another narration...

The Shaykh : Its meaning is like this, and for this reason he said:
Until you meet me at al-Safa.
.
The Reciter:
and said: Meet me at as-Safa. Then we went on (and) if any one of us wanted that a certain person should be killed, he was killed, and none could offer any resistance.
Sahih Muslim 1780a
.

The Shaykh : This is humiliation, and I seek refuge in Allah, until one does not even defend himself!
The Reciter:
Then came Abu Sufyan and said: Messenger of Allah, the blood of the Quraish has become very cheap. There will be no Quraish from this day on. Then he (the Holy Prophet) said: Who enters the house of Abu Sufyan, he will be safe.
Sahih Muslim 1780a
.

The Shaykh : Because Abu Sufyan was their leader at that time, and in another hadith:
Whoever enters his house and closes his door upon himself is safe, and whoever enters the mosque is safe.
, he reassured Abu Sufyan by making his house a sanctuary for people, whereas for anyone other than Abu Sufyan, his house would not be a sanctuary except for himself only.
The Reciter:
Some of the Ansar whispered among themselves: (After all), love for his city and tenderness towards his relations have overpowered him.
Sahih Muslim 1780a
.

The Shaykh : As for the village, it is Makkah, and the man referred to is the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
The Reciter: Abu Hurayrah said:
Sahih Muslim 1780a
.

The Shaykh : His saying (may the prayers and peace of Allah be upon him) when he settled them and they acknowledged, he said:
No! كلا
meaning it will never be that I return to my village and my people. I am the servant of Allah and His Messenger. I emigrated to Allah and to you, meaning: I emigrated to Allah, to al-Madinah by the command of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), and to you: because they (may Allah be pleased with them) pledged allegiance to him to protect him and safeguard him, as they safeguard their women and children.
And his saying:
I will live with you and will die with you
Sahih Muslim 1780a
means that I will live among you and die among you, and that was the case.
And their saying:
By Allah, we said what we said because of our tenacious attachment to Allah and His Messenger.
Sahih Muslim 1780a
The word "stinginess" (al-dhan) is with a sad, because it is from compassion, meaning except that we feared that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would be with us, and we said this word, and it was as if they were saying: We did not intend its apparent meaning.
And look at the difference between their saying this and the saying of the hypocrites:
We have not seen the like of these reciters of ours; they are the most greedy in their bellies, the most lying in their tongues, and the most cowardly in the encounter.
, meaning the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), because these hypocrites were mocking and ridiculing, whereas these men only said this word, despite its great gravity, out of compassion for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he would remain in Makkah.

The questioner : We have with a kasrah:
We said except out of concern.
.

The Shaykh : With a kasrah for you? Look at the explanation...
The Reciter: "With a kasrah on the dad, it means: stinginess, i.e., out of stinginess that you should leave us, and you are exclusive to us unlike others".

The Shaykh : With a kasrah on the dad...
The Reciter: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Surely, Allah and His Messenger testify to your assertions and accept your apology. The narrator continued: People turned to the house of Abu Sufyan and people locked their doors. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) proceeded until he approached the (Black) Stone. He kissed it and circumambulated the Ka'ba.
Sahih Muslim 1780a
.

The Shaykh : Touching it means: he wiped it with his hand.
And his saying:
except the stingy إلا الضّن
Its grammatical analysis is that it is the object for the sake of which the action was done, and for this reason it is in the accusative case.
The Reciter:
He reached near an idol by the side of the Ka'ba which was worshipped by the people. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) had a bow in his hand, and he was holding it from a corner. When he came near the idol, he began to pierce its eyes with the bow and (while doing so) was saying: Truth has been established and falsehood has perished. When he had finished the circumambulation, he came to Safa', ascended it to a height from where he could see the Ka'ba, raised his hands (in prayer) and began to praise Allah and prayed what he wanted to pray.
Sahih Muslim 1780a
.

The Shaykh : It appears that he did not perform the sa'y, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not come for an 'Umrah, but it was their custom when they wanted to announce something to climb to al-Safa and announce it, because the houses were close, and al-Safa is elevated.
