The Book of Faith-07b

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Sarih ibn Yunus and Ya'qub al-Duqir narrated to us, saying: Hisham narrated to us from Sayyar from al-Sha'bi from Jarir, who said:
I pledged allegiance to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to listen and obey - and he taught me - as much as I am able, and to give sincere advice to every Muslim بايعت النّبيّ صلى الله عليه وسلم على السّمع والطّاعة - فلقّنني - فيما استطعتَ ، والنّصح لكلّ مسلمٍ
As-Sunan al-Kubra lil-Nasa'i 62:143
Ya'qub said in his narration: Sayyar narrated to us.

The Shaykh : His statement:
as much as I am able فيما استطعت
It is possible that it is with an open fathah, and it is possible that it is with a closed dammah. As for the first, "he taught me as much as I am able" means: he said to me: listening and obeying is as much as you are able. As for the second, with the dammah, it is possible that he said: "teach me as much as I am able," meaning: say as much as you are able. Both are correct. The point of this hadith is his statement:
I pledged to the Messenger of Allah بايعت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم
Sunan an-Nasa'i 4156Sahih (Darussalam)
and the pledge of allegiance means a covenant, and it is called a pledge of allegiance because each of the two parties extends his arm to the other to hold his hand. And his statement:
to listen and obey على السمع والطاعة
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught him by saying:
as much as I am able فيما استطعت
This is a matter that a person should be aware of, and not commit to something in an absolute manner, but rather say: "as much as I am able," so that he has an excuse if he fails to do so, and he can say: I was not able. In it is also evidence for caution in speech, and that a person should be cautious in his speech to guard against what comes from its absoluteness and generalization. In it is also: the obligation of giving sincere advice to every Muslim. It was mentioned that among the commitments of Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) was that he bought a horse for a price, then he went with it and used it, and he found it to be worth more, so he returned and gave the seller multiples of what he had taken from him, because he had pledged allegiance to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to give sincere advice to every Muslim.
