The benefits of the saying of Allah the Exalted: “Except that you do kindness to your awliya (close friends of Allah)”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Now,
except that you may do to your close associates a kindness
[Al-Ahzab 33:6]
it is derived from this noble verse that it is permissible to make a bequest to those with whom you have a bond of loyalty, based on His saying:
except that you may
[Al-Ahzab 33:6]
The apparent meaning of the verse is general, but it is restricted by the texts indicating that a bequest does not exceed one-third. Among these is the hadith of Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) visited him during an illness he was suffering from. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw him, Sa'd—meaning Sa'd—seized the opportunity and said: “O Messenger of Allah, I have wealth, and no one will inherit from me except my daughter”. His intention was that no one from his direct descendants would inherit from him, for otherwise he had paternal uncles and other residuary heirs.
“Shall I give away two-thirds of my wealth?” He said, “No.” He said, “Then half?” He said, “No.” He said, “Then one-third?” He said, “One-third, and one-third is a lot.”

Among the benefits of this noble verse is that excellence in worship (ihsan) is included in what is right (ma'ruf), based on His saying:
Kindness
meaning excellence in worship through the bequest. Accordingly, if I say “pass by us with what is right,” it includes the command to do good, does it not? It does, and without doubt, excellence in worship is what is right in the sight of Allah and in the sight of creation.
Among the benefits of this noble verse is the eloquence of the Qur'an in being cautious in a place of potential ambiguity. From where is this taken?
The student: ...
The Shaykh : How is that? Because when He said:
But those of [blood] relationship are more entitled
[Al-Anfal 8:75]
a person might assume that those with whom he has a bond of loyalty cannot benefit from any of his wealth. So He was cautious in His saying:
except that you may do to your close associates a kindness
[Al-Ahzab 33:6]
There are examples of this that have passed us by many times, such as:
Not equal among you are those who spent before the conquest [of Makkah] and fought [and those who did so after it]. Those are greater in degree than they who spent afterwards and fought. But to all Allah has promised the best [reward] لا يَسْتَوِي مِنْكُمْ مَنْ أَنْفَقَ مِنْ قَبْلِ الْفَتْحِ وَقَاتَلَ أُوْلَئِكَ أَعْظَمُ دَرَجَةً مِنَ الَّذِينَ أَنْفَقُوا مِنْ بَعْدُ وَقَاتَلُوا وَكُلًّا وَعَدَ اللَّهُ الْحُسْنَى
[Al-Hadid: 10].
