The benefits of the verse: ((The Book has been revealed to you in truth, confirming what came before it, and He revealed the Torah and the Gospel))

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
As for the verse that follows it, among its benefits is the affirmation of the exaltation of Allah, based on His saying:
He has sent down نزل
and
revealed أنزل
, for descent does not occur except from above. Among its benefits is that the Noble Qur'an is revealed, based on His saying:
It was revealed to you نزل عليك
. Does its being revealed necessitate that it is not created? No, the mere fact that it is revealed does not necessitate that it is not created, for Allah may reveal a created thing,
And We have sent down blessed rain from the sky ونزلنا من السماء ماء مباركا
[Qaf 50:9]
, and water is created,
sent down from the sky, rain أنزل من السماء ماء
[Al-Baqarah 2:22]
, and water is created. However, considering that the Qur'an is speech, it necessitates that it is not created, for speech is an attribute of the Speaker, and the attribute of the Creator is not created. Thus, it is understood that the Qur'an is not created because it was revealed from Allah, and it is speech, and speech is an attribute of the Speaker, and the attribute follows the one who possesses it. Among the benefits of the Noble verse is the virtue and distinction of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), based on His saying:
upon you, [O Muhammad], the Book in truth عليك الكتاب بالحق
[Ali 'Imran 3:3]
. However, it may be objected that Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, may attribute revelation to people, as He said in Surat Al-Imran:
Say, "We have believed in Allah and in what was revealed to us and what was revealed to Abraham قل آمنا بالله وما أنزل علينا وما أنزل على ابراهيم
[Ali 'Imran 3:84]
, and in the verses of Al-Baqarah:
Say, [O believers], "We have believed in Allah and what has been revealed to us and what has been revealed to Abraham قولوا آمنا بالله وما أنزل إلينا وما أنزل إلى ابراهيم
[Al-Baqarah 2:136]
? The answer is that it was revealed directly to the Messenger and to us indirectly, through the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), who conveyed it to us. It is well known that the primary source is more noble than the secondary. Among the benefits of the Noble verse is that this Book which Allah revealed to Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) contains the truth, based on His saying:
with the truth بالحق
. It came with the truth and was revealed with it. Allah, the Exalted, said:
And with the truth We have sent the Qur'an down, and with the truth it has descended وبالحق أنزلناه وبالحق نزل
[Al-Isra 17:105]
. So what is the type of truth with which the Qur'an was revealed? We say: What is in the Qur'an is either news or rulings. The truth in news is veracity, and the truth in rulings is justice, as He said, the Exalted:
And the word of your Lord has been fulfilled in truth and in justice وتمت كلمة ربك صدقا وعدلا
[Al-An'am 6:115]
. So we say: Everything in the Qur'an that is news is veracity, and everything in it that is rulings is justice. Does this include that these news and these rulings are beneficial and in the interest of creation? The answer is yes. Allah, the Exalted, said:
We relate to you, [O Muhammad], the best of stories in what We have revealed to you of this Qur'an نحن نقص عليك أحسن القصص بما أوحينا إليك هذا القرآن
[Yusuf 12:3]
and He said:
There was certainly in their stories a lesson for those of understanding لقد كان في قصصهم عبرة لأولي الألباب
[Yusuf 12:111]
. So everything in it that is news is beneficial, and everything in it that is a ruling is also beneficial, containing benefits and repelling harms. Among the benefits of the Noble verse is that the Qur'an itself is truth. From where is this derived? From His saying:
with the truth بالحق
, meaning that it was revealed with truth, not revealed as a lie or falsehood. Among the benefits of the Noble verse is the virtue of the Qur'an, due to its description as truth in its revelation and its content, and its description as confirming what came before it, that it confirms what came before it of all the books, based on His saying:
confirming that which was before it مصدقا لما بين يديه
[Al-Baqarah 2:97]
. Among the benefits of the Noble verse is that this Qur'an was reported about in the previous books, from His saying:
confirming that which was before it مصدقا لما بين يديه
[Al-Baqarah 2:97]
, because it is one of the two meanings of the word
confirming مصدق
. Among the benefits of the Noble verse is the permissibility of expressing what contradicts the apparent meaning if the context indicates it, in His saying:
for those who were present لما بين يديه
[Al-Baqarah 2:66]
. For one may say: The Qur'an does not have hands, so how is it correct to say:
for those who were present لما بين يديه
[Al-Baqarah 2:66]
? We say: It is true that the Qur'an does not have hands, and we do not say that
for those who were present لما بين يديه
[Al-Baqarah 2:66]
that the Qur'an has hands, or that it has two hands, and that it is the truth of what is before its hands. But we say: If a word indicates its meaning in its context, even if it contradicts the original usage, and it has been mentioned that the intended meaning of
for those who were present لما بين يديه
[Al-Baqarah 2:66]
is what preceded it, what preceded it of the books. Among the benefits of the Noble verse is that the Torah revealed to Moses and the Gospel revealed to Jesus, peace be upon them, are truth, based on His saying:
And He sent down the Torah and the Gospel وأنزل التوراة والإنجيل
. Among the benefits of the verse is the indication that the Torah and the Gospel have been abrogated by the Qur'an.
