Explanation of the Book: The Beginning of Revelation, Faith, and Knowledge-04a

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Harimi ibn Hafs narrated to us, saying: Abd al-Wahhab narrated to us, saying: 'Amr narrated to us, saying: Abu Zur'ah ibn 'Amr ibn Jarir narrated to us, saying: I heard Abu Hurayrah from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
The person who participates in (Holy battles) in Allah's cause and nothing compels him to do so except belief in Allah and His Apostles, will be recompensed by Allah either with a reward, or booty (if he survives) or will be admitted to Paradise (if he is killed in the battle as a martyr). Had I not found it difficult for my followers, then I would not remain behind any sariya going for Jihad and I would have loved to be martyred in Allah's cause and then made alive, and then martyred and then made alive, and then again martyred in His cause.
Sahih al-Bukhari 36
.

The Shaykh : Allah is the Greatest.
Allah has pledged
means He guaranteed and pledged
one who goes out in the way of Allah
Sahih Muslim 1876h
for the one who goes out in His cause, meaning in jihad in His cause. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) defined jihad in the cause of Allah with the best definition, saying:
Whoever fought so that the Word of Allah is supreme, then he is in Allah's cause.
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1646Sahih (Darussalam)
. For this reason, he said:
nothing compels him to do so except belief in Allah and His Apostles
Sahih al-Bukhari 36
. And were it not for faith in Allah and belief in the Messengers of Allah, he would not have exposed his neck to fulfill his duty to Allah, but because of his faith in Allah and his belief in His Messengers, he went out to fight in the cause of Allah.
Allah has pledged
will be recompensed by Allah either with a reward, or booty
Sahih al-Bukhari 36
. His statement: "with whatever he gains of reward or spoils," is this a preclusion of emptiness or a preclusion of combination?

The questioner : A preclusion of emptiness.

The Shaykh : A preclusion of emptiness, not a preclusion of combination, because a person may combine both reward and spoils, or he may have neither, or he may have only the reward, or he may have only the spoils. But the latter is very unlikely, that he have only the spoils while he went out with faith in Allah and belief in His Messengers. As for his returning with only the reward and no spoils, that is common. Suppose the disbelievers fled with the wealth they had and escaped; with what did he return?
With the reward only. He said:
or to admit him into Paradise
, and that is in the case where he did not return because he was killed as a martyr, for then he has Paradise, as the Exalted said:
And never think of those who have been killed in the cause of Allah as dead. Rather, they are alive with their Lord, receiving provision,
[Ali 'Imran 3:169]
Yes, the point is.
Had I not found it difficult for my followers, then I would not remain behind any sariya going for Jihad
Sahih al-Bukhari 36
From this, we derive following the actions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), because if the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had gone out with every expeditionary force, the Ummah would have followed him, and that would have been difficult for them.
It also contains that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) leaves the action he prefers out of fear of causing hardship for his Ummah. There are many examples of this. He broke his fast after the 'Asr prayer when it was told to him that fasting was difficult for the people, even though he preferred fasting while traveling. And he said:
Had I not feared burdening my Ummah, I would have commanded them to use Siwak with every
Bulugh al-Maram 32
. And one night he delayed the 'Isha' prayer until most of the night had passed, then he came out and said:
This is the proper time for it; were it not that I would impose a burden on my people
Sahih Muslim 638c
. There are many examples of this from him (peace and blessings be upon him). For this reason, it is our right to prefer him over our souls and our children for what he brought us of guidance and light, and for his consideration of the situation.
I would have loved to be martyred in Allah's cause and then made alive, and then martyred and then made alive, and then again martyred in His cause.
Sahih al-Bukhari 36
I think this is an insertion from the words of Abu Hurayrah.
Do you have anything in the explanation? Yes?

The questioner : ...

The Shaykh : Explanation, Fath al-Bari, al-Bari.

The questioner : ...

The Shaykh : Yes, okay, let's look at al-'Ayni.

The questioner : ....

The Shaykh : What?

The questioner : ...

The Shaykh : Yes, meaning it is not an insertion according to this, I don't know, my memory did not fail me...

The questioner : ...

The Shaykh : Yes, we will leave it for tomorrow if 'Abd Allah does not have knowledge of it, he never spoke about it.
