The hadith of Shubrumah regarding Hajj: How is it valid for him to change his intention to himself when he had initially intended it for his brother Shubrumah?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : ...

The Shaykh : Did you hear what he said?
God's messenger heard a man say, “ Labbaik on behalf of Shubruma." He asked who Shubruma was, and the man replied, “A brother of mine," or “a relative of mine." He asked whether he had performed the pilgrimage on his own behalf, and when he replied that he had not, he said, “Perform the pilgrimage on your own behalf, then perform it on behalf of Shubruma." الرجل الذي سمعه النبي صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم يقول : لبيك عن شبرمة ، قال : من شبرمة ؟، قال : أخ لي ، أو قريب لي ، قال : حججت عن نفسك ؟، قال : لا ، قال : حج عن نفسك ثم حج عن شبرمة
Mishkat al-Masabih 2529
, so the man made it for himself. He says, how is that valid when he initially intended it for Shubrumah? How is this valid?
We say that Hajj, in the matter of intention, differs from other acts; it differs from other acts. The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) had his Companions intend Hajj, and they performed tawaf with the intention of Hajj, and sa'y with the intention of Hajj, and he ordered them to make it 'Umrah, so they changed it to 'Umrah, even though they had initially intended Hajj.
Then, as for 'Ali ibn Abi Talib
When he brought a sacrificial animal from Yemen, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said to him: With what did you enter the state of ihram? He said: With what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) entered the state of ihram. لما قدم ببدن النبي صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم من اليمن قال له : بما أهللت ؟، قال : بما أهل به رسول الله صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم
, and it is what he did not know, being ambiguous, he said:
I have with me sacrificial animals, so do not put off the Ihram. فإن معي الهدي فلا تحل
Sahih Muslim 1218a
, and Abu Musa said, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him:
With what did you enter the state of ihram? He said: With what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) entered the state of ihram. He said: Do you have a sacrificial animal with you? He said: No. He said: Then it is 'Umrah. بما أهللت ؟. قال : بما أهل به رسول الله صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم ، قال : معك هدي ؟. قال : لا ، قال : فهي عمرة
.
So Hajj has specific characteristics in the matter of intention that are not found in other acts.

The questioner : ...

The Shaykh : No, what he intended is that you did not change the intention in the manner that was transmitted. His intention means that even Hajj requires intention.
