And he resolved to march, and he and 'Umar were part of the army; who was leading them?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And he resolved to march, and he and 'Umar were part of the army; who was leading them?
The student: Usamah

The Shaykh : Usamah was younger than them and of less status, but they were men who obey the command of Allah and His Messenger. What do you think if a commander were brought and told, "Go under the command of a soldier who obeys, or one who does not obey, absolutely does not obey; even if a sword were placed on his head, he would not obey, he would not obey"? But these are the best of the nations after the prophets, Abu Bakr and 'Umar, and yet they were under the command of this young man. But who placed them under his command?
The student: The Messenger.

The Shaykh : The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said, and they said, "We hear and obey," but they sought permission from Usamah to remain in the city. They sought permission from this young man to remain in the city. He said: "Yes." The Caliph sought permission from this commander, but in reality, he did not seek permission from this commander; he sought permission from the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), because this commander had become their commander by the appointment of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). Then the army marched. When the Arabs saw that the people of the city had sent the armies to the borders of Sham, they said, "They have strength; they have strength..." So they were humbled after they had raised their heads and swelled their necks in pride. They were humbled, and in its execution, what was the result? Strength for the Muslims. Perhaps they had not killed them with their own hands before this. Know that everything you do for Allah, know that Allah has aided it with good and blessing. We ask Allah for sincerity for us and for you.
These are three
The student: Four,

The Shaykh : Four. The fifth: Apostasy. The Arabs apostatized after the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). They said, "It is not possible," until they demanded zakah from them, and they said, "This is jizyah." Some of them said, "We will not give it except to the Messenger, and the Messenger has died." Allah said to the Messenger:
Take, [O, Muhammad], from their wealth a charity خذ من أموالهم صدقة
[At-Tawbah 9:103]
So He commanded him to take it, but as for you, we will not give it to you. So Abu Bakr resolved to fight them, and 'Umar reviewed the matter with him and cited the hadith as evidence for him. He said to him, O 'Umar: "By Allah, if they prevented us from a female goat, which is the smallest of sheep, or said, a rope they used to tie it to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), I would fight them over that" because it is not possible to submit to them. And he said to him, "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
If they say it, then their blood and wealth are protected from me, except for a right that is due from it فإذا قالوها عصموا مني دماءهم وأولادهم إلا بحقه
Sunan Ibn Majah 3927Sahih (Darussalam)
and zakah is the right of wealth, and by Allah, I will fight whoever separates between prayer and zakah." He resolved to fight them, and the result was good for the Muslims, praise be to Allah. So the important point is that Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), if a virtue is established for 'Umar, it may be a specific virtue:
But Allah selects for His mercy whom He wills والله يختص برحمته من يشاء
[Al-Baqarah 2:105]
But in times of hardship, we find Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) stronger than 'Umar, even though the one who looks at his general state sees that he is gentler than 'Umar. There is no doubt that he is gentler than 'Umar, but in times of hardship, his firmness is revealed. May Allah be pleased with them all. And we do not say this to belittle 'Umar, no, by Allah, but we say that 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), and although the virtues established for him are established, if Abu Bakr is better than him, and they are both better than 'Uthman, and the three of them are better than 'Ali, but one of them may be distinguished by a specific trait that the other does not have, and a specific virtue does not necessitate absolute general virtue. For this reason, we say the Tabi'un are better than the Tabi' al-Tabi'in, but not every individual among them is better than every individual among those after them. And when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Indeed, among those before you were innovators, and among you are innovators, so 'Umar إن فيمن كان في قبلكم محدثون ، فإن فيكم محدثون فعمر
, Shaykh al-Islam said: "This does not indicate the virtue of 'Umar over Abu Bakr, because 'Umar receives it through narration, and Abu Bakr does not receive it through narration, but it is something Allah (Mighty and Majestic) inspires to him by inspiration", and this does not necessitate his virtue over Abu Bakr. In any case, we say that a specific trait may occur for one of them, making him better than the other in that specific trait, but this does not necessitate absolute virtue. And I have an interjected phrase, yes.

The questioner : O Shaykh,

The Shaykh : We took three.

The questioner : We did not take anything

The Shaykh : Glory be to Allah.
