The questioner : A long message sent by the questioner, in which he says, “O honorableThe Shaykh : My problem is that my father married me off when I was eighteen years old. I was in high school at the time and did not want to get married then. I wanted to marry someone other than my current wife, but I was unable to refuse at that time. I married that woman, but I have never felt that I loved her. Thirteen years have now passed since our marriage, and I have three children from her. I have completed my university studies and am now working as a doctor. My wife is a rural woman who is uneducated and not beautiful. I now feel that I cannot live with her in the village with her children in my father’s house, while I work in the city. I do not love her, nor do I hate her, but I cannot live with her as a husband, and I have no desire for her. No feelings attract me to her except that she is the mother of my three children. I am now considering divorcing her and marrying someone else. Please guide us, O honorable Shaykh, as to what is best for me in this matter. May you be rewarded.
The Shaykh : What I see is that you should keep the woman in your protection to preserve the children and prevent their dispersal. From my understanding of the question as a whole, the father desires her. Therefore, I see that you should keep her in your protection and marry another woman according to your desire.
And if you wish, which is better, marry a second wife so that you have three. If you wish, marry a third so that you have four, as long as you have the financial, physical, and religious capacity such that you know you will be able to act justly.
