Q: If I enter the mosque and the imam is praying the Friday prayer and he is sitting for the tashahhud, do I pray it as Jumu'ah or as Zuhr?
A: If the one who joins the prayer late does not catch of the Friday prayer but the prostration or the tashahhud, he prays Zuhr and does not pray Jumu'ah; because the prayer is only caught by a rak'ah; due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Muwatta Malik 1:15 and his saying (peace and blessings be upon him): Bulugh al-Maram 2:366.
So it is known by these two hadiths that whoever does not catch a rak'ah of the Friday prayer has missed the Friday prayer, and he must pray Zuhr. And success is from Allah.
