The ruling on filming the washing of the deceased for the sake of reminder or instruction
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: What is the ruling on filming the washing of the deceased on a video tape and then selling it under the pretext that it is a means of reminding people of death?
A: If the intention is to film the deceased during the washing, then that is not permissible; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade the depiction of living beings and cursed the image-makers, and he said:Riyad as-Salihin 1682.
However, if the questioner intends to explain the manner of washing the deceased as Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) prescribed, on a tape that is distributed or sold, then there is nothing wrong with it, just as the teaching of people how to pray and other things people need is recorded without filming.
May Allah guide everyone to beneficial knowledge and righteous deeds.
