No expiation is required for one who delays making up fasts due to illness

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: I fell ill and was unable to fast Ramadan, so I delayed it until Ramadan of the following year. Is fasting alone sufficient? Or is there an expiation? And what is it?

Answer: If you delayed it because of illness, making up the fasts is sufficient for you. If the illness continued with you until the other Ramadan, then making up the fasts is sufficient, and praise be to Allah, and you owe nothing. However, if you were lax while you were well and did not make up the fasts until after another Ramadan, then you must combine both: you must make up the days you missed and feed one poor person for each day, half a sa' (a dry measure of about 3 kg) by the sa' of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), which is approximately one and a half kilograms of the staple food of the country, such as dates, rice, wheat, or the like. You gather this and give it to some of the poor.
