A discussion on the miracles of the righteous.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and I send prayers and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions. We were speaking about the miracles of the awliya (close friends of Allah), and we first explained the awliya, so we said: the awliya, O pilgrims.
The student: As Allah the Exalted said.

The Shaykh : The awliya is the plural of those who know them.
The student: The plural of wali.

The Shaykh : Wali and al-wali.
The student: Whoever is a believer and pious is a wali of Allah.

The Shaykh : What is the evidence?
The student: His saying, the Exalted:
(62) Unquestionably, [for] the allies of Allah there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve (63) Those who believed and were fearing Allah
[Yunus 10:62-63]
.

The Shaykh : The completion of the karamah (a miracle granted to a righteous person), yes, that is correct.
The student: A matter that defies the custom...

The Shaykh : Which Allah causes to occur through the hand of a follower of the Messenger. Is saying "follower of the Messenger" sufficient to establish it for him or to support his path? Yes. So this karamah, we said: a matter that defies the custom, and it is excluded by...
The student: It is excluded by...

The Shaykh : Not a matter that defies the custom, it is excluded by...
The student: It is excluded by...

The Shaykh : It is now a matter that defies the custom. Yes, the karamah is a matter that defies the custom. We said "defies the custom," and what is it excluded by?
The student: What is not customary.

The Shaykh : What is not customary. No, yes, my...
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : It is excluded by what conforms to the custom. What conforms to the custom. Good, what is an example of that? Yes, you.
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : We do not want an example of what is excluded by this condition, what is excluded by this condition. A matter that defies the custom, excluded by what was in conformity with the custom, so it is not a karamah. We want what is in conformity with the custom.
The student: What is in conformity with the custom...

The Shaykh : And it is excluded, as this man said, this is not a karamah. Why? Because it is in conformity with the custom. Good. Allah the Exalted causes it to occur through the hand of a follower of the Messenger, excluded by sorcery. Good, what else is excluded? And it is also excluded by... This is his statement. Yes, 'Abd al-Wahhab.
The student: Those who are not on the guidance of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) from the innovators.

The Shaykh : Good, this is the statement of the brothers. Yes.
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : No, my brothers, you are mentioning it. It is excluded by the mu'jizah (a prophetic miracle), because the mu'jizah is a matter that defies the custom which Allah causes to occur through the hand of whom? The Messenger, not a follower of the Messenger. So the phrase "follower of the Messenger" excluded the mu'jizah because it is through the hand of the Messenger. And it excluded sorcery and magic because it is not through the hand of a follower of the Messenger. Good, is it clear?
We said: to establish it for him, or a karamah, or to support the truth. Meaning that the karamah is either to establish this wali and honor him, or to support the truth upon which he is. The first example: what is an honor to the wali, meaning just an honor to the wali and establishment. Yes, Khalid.
The student: ... (may Allah be pleased with him) when he was thrown into the fire and came out of it unharmed...

The Shaykh : But this is not support for the truth.
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : We want what is just a karamah for the person and establishment.
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : Yes, you have done well. So Allah granted him this karamah as support, honor for him, and establishment. As for support for the truth, it is that in which there is victory for the truth, as happened to al-'Ala' ibn al-Hadrami with walking on water, and Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas, and others. Good. Is the karamah present in what came before, or in those who came before this Ummah, Muhammad?
The student: Present, meaning in the previous nations.

The Shaykh : Present in the previous nations.
The student: Yes, it is present.

The Shaykh : For example.
The student: The mu'jizat or the karamat?

The Shaykh : The karamat.
The student: We did not mention them.

The Shaykh : We did not mention them. No, there is no god but Allah. I told you, my brothers, do not say "we did not mention them." So we will ask one of you who has it in his hand. I did not mention them. Good, O 'Adil.
The student: Like the one who passed by a town that was in ruins, its roofs caved in.

The Shaykh : Yes
The student: So Allah caused him to die for a hundred years.
The student: Like the one who passed by a town that was in ruins, its roofs caved in.

The Shaykh : Yes, that is right.
The student: This was before, before Islam.

The Shaykh : Good, and the People of the Cave, and the story of Maryam, and the story of the people of the cave, and the story of the three: the leper, the bald one, and the blind one. Yes, many. Yes, we mentioned some of them. We mentioned some of them and explained how the karamah was for Maryam, a woman in labor, she shook the trunk of the palm tree and the dates fell, and it did not change. Did I mention it now or not? Yes, did we mention it or not?
The student: Yes.

The Shaykh : Yes, so pay attention to this. If you forget something, do not say "by Allah, we did not mention it." Yes, good.
