The ruling on a pilgrim traveling to Jeddah before the farewell tawaf
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: Is it permissible for a pilgrim to travel to Jeddah without performing the farewell tawaf? And what is required of one who does so?
Answer: It is not permissible for a pilgrim to leave Makkah after Hajj except after the farewell tawaf; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: narrated by Muslim. And in the two Sahihs, from the hadith of Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him), it was said: “The people were commanded that their last visit should be to the House, except that this was made easier for the menstruating woman.” So it is not permissible for the people of Jeddah, nor the people of Ta’if, nor anyone else, to leave Makkah after Hajj except after the farewell. Whoever travels before the farewell owes a sacrificial animal; because he left an obligatory act. Other opinions were stated regarding this, but this is the correct opinion of the scholars in this issue.
And some of the scholars said that if he returns with the intention of the farewell tawaf, that suffices for him and the sacrificial animal is dropped from him. But there is consideration in this, and the most cautious course for the believer, as long as he traveled the distance of shortening the prayer and did not bid farewell to the House, is that he owes a sacrificial animal with which he makes up his Hajj.
