What is prescribed for the widow in her waiting period

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: What is prescribed for the widow in her waiting period?

Answer: It is obligatory for her to observe a waiting period of four months and ten days if she is not pregnant; for the saying of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) :
And those who are taken in death among you and leave wives behind - they, [the wives, shall] wait four months and ten [days]وَالَّذِينَ يُتَوَفَّوْنَ مِنكُمْ وَيَذَرُونَ أَزْوَاجًا يَتَرَبَّصْنَ بِأَنفُسِهِنَّ أَرْبَعَةَ أَشْهُرٍ وَعَشْرًا
[al-Baqarah:234] unless she is pregnant, in which case her waiting period ends with the delivery of the child; for the saying of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He):
And for those who are pregnant, their term is until they give birthوَأُوْلَاتُ الْأَحْمَالِ أَجَلُهُنَّ أَن يَضَعْنَ حَمْلَهُنَّ
[al-Talaq:4].
It is obligatory for her to avoid beautiful clothing, kohl, and perfume, unless she has become pure from her menstruation, in which case there is nothing wrong with her using some perfume.
She must also avoid jewelry made of gold, silver, and other materials, and she must avoid henna on her hands and head, and she should comb her hair with siddur; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade the woman in her waiting period from what we have mentioned.
There is nothing wrong with her using shampoo, soap, and ishan; because these are not included in the prohibition. And success is from Allah.
