Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Are the fortune-tellers and sorcerers of the People of the Book not to be killed?

Answer:
The well-known view among the scholars is that they are not to be killed; because they have been treated with respect to their state and what they are upon by paying the jizyah, and their fortune-teller and sorcerer remain among them.
Q: What is Ibn Sayyad to be compared to?
The Shaykh: Ibn Sayyad is one of them, one of the fortune-tellers.
Q: Did Ibn Sayyad accept Islam?
The Shaykh: He displayed Islam, but the people did not feel safe with him and did not believe him. He performed Hajj with the people and came to Makkah and displayed Islam. He used to say to the people: "Oh, how astonishing you are! I have accepted Islam and I have performed Hajj, yet you accuse me." They continued to accuse him, and even if he accepted Islam, they would accuse him of hypocrisy. May Allah be our helper.
