Discussion of the second adhan for Jumu'ah.
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : If someone were to say that introducing this is a religious innovation because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not prescribe more than one adhan, and that the adhan is an act of worship that cannot be legislated except by the Lawgiver, the answer to that is from two angles. The first angle is that this is part of the Sunnah of the Rightly Guided Caliphs, for Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) was one of them, and the Sunnah of the Rightly Guided Caliphs is to be followed in accordance with the Sunnah of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: Mishkat al-Masabih 165Sahīh (Zubair `Aliza'i) This is one.
Second, Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) did not establish it except for a reason that did not exist in the time of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), which was the expansion of the city and the distance between people. So it cannot be said that the Messenger did not prescribe it while the second adhan exists. We say that in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), there was no expansion that required people to be called to prayer. It is known that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prescribed an adhan in the last part of the night, not for the Fajr prayer, but to wake up the sleeper and return the one who was standing. He said (peace and blessings be upon him): Do you know? So the reason the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prescribed the adhan in the last part of the night was not for the time of prayer, but for people to wake up for the suhur meal. This may be a lesser reason for the legitimacy of the adhan than the adhan on Friday. Accordingly, this Sunnah established by the Commander of the Faithful, Uthman ibn Affan, is a legitimate Sunnah that we are commanded to follow. And by this, the arrogance of some arrogant young students of knowledge who claim affiliation with the science of hadith is revealed. They mislead the Commander of the Faithful, Uthman ibn Affan, and say that he is an innovator. We ask Allah for safety. And if they say that Uthman is an innovator, it necessarily follows that all the Companions who lived in his time are what? Innovators, because they approved of the innovation. This is a dangerous principle that indicates arrogance and self-admiration, and we seek refuge in Allah, and a lack of concern for what the righteous Salaf were upon. And by Allah, then by Allah, then by Allah, the knowledge of the righteous Salaf is closer to the truth than the knowledge of the later scholars and on a straighter path. This is a known fact. Even Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) used to order the following of the guidance of the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) and say: "They are deeper in knowledge and more righteous in heart." When righteousness of heart and depth of knowledge are combined, it becomes clear that those who came after them are behind, not ahead. And I warn my brothers, the students of knowledge, from committing such a grave error. I say: Do not climb a difficult path for you, the Sunnah of the Rightly Guided Caliphs, as your Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded you. And beware of letting your tongues run loose against them with such ridiculous words. Is it said of the Commander of the Faithful, Uthman ibn Affan, the third caliph in Islam, that he is an innovator? Is it said of the Commander of the Faithful, Uthman ibn Affan, the third of the Muslim caliphs, that he is an innovator? Or is it said of the Companions who lived in his time that they are approvers of innovation? Who are you, O boy? Who are you, O arrogant one? Know your own worth so that you may know the worth of others. We ask Allah for safety.
You must therefore follow my sunna and that of the rightly guided Caliphs
