The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
We are still with the author (may Allah have mercy on him) in the chapter of patience, patience with the decrees of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He). It has been mentioned previously that it is of three types. Among that, meaning among patience with the decrees of Allah, is what the author (may Allah have mercy on him) quoted from 'Ata ibn Abi Rabah (may Allah have mercy on him) that Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said to him:Sahih Muslim 2576 This is because the people of Paradise are divided into two groups: a group for whom we testify to Paradise by their descriptions, and a group for whom we testify to Paradise by their specific identities. As for those for whom we testify to Paradise by their descriptions, every believer, every person who fears Allah, we testify that he is from the people of Paradise, as Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) said regarding Paradise: , and He said: [Al-Bayyinah 98:7-8] : So every believer who fears Allah and does good deeds, we testify that he is from the people of Paradise, but we do not say it is so-and-so and so-and-so, because we do not know how his end will be, and we do not know if his inner self is like his outer appearance. Therefore, we do not testify to him by his specific identity. We say, for example: If a man known for goodness dies, we say: We hope that he is from the people of Paradise, but we do not testify that he is from the people of Paradise. Another group is those for whom we testify by their specific identities, and they are those to whom the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) testified that they are in Paradise, such as: the ten who were given glad tidings of Paradise: Abu Bakr, 'Umar, 'Uthman, 'Ali, Sa'd ibn Zayd, Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn 'Awf, Talhah ibn 'Ubayd Allah, Abu 'Ubaydah 'Amir ibn al-Jarrah, al-Zubayr ibn al-'Awwam, and such as Thabit ibn Qays ibn Shamas, and such as Sa'd ibn Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him), 'Abd Allah ibn Salam, Bilal ibn Abi Rabah, and others whom the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) specified. We testify to these by their specific identities. We say: We testify that Abu Bakr is in Paradise, we testify that 'Umar is in Paradise, we testify that 'Uthman is in Paradise, we testify that 'Ali ibn Abi Talib is in Paradise, and so on. Among that is this woman about whom Ibn 'Abbas said to his student 'Ata ibn Abi Rabah: Sahih Muslim 2576 : A black woman who had no status in society. She had epilepsy and became exposed. So she informed the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked him to call upon Allah for her. He said to her: , and although she was in pain and suffering from the epilepsy, she was patient in order to be from the people of Paradise. But she said: : And epilepsy, we seek refuge in Allah from it. Epilepsy is of two types: epilepsy due to the spasm of nerves, and this is an organic disease that can be treated by material doctors by giving medications that calm it or remove it completely. And another type: due to Shayatins and jinn. The jinni takes control of the human, causing him to have an epileptic fit, entering him, striking him to the ground, and he faints from the severity of the epilepsy and does not feel. The Shaytan or jinni possesses the human's soul and begins to speak on his tongue, speaking on the tongue of the human. The one who hears the speech says it is the human who is speaking, but it is the jinni. Therefore, you find some difference in his speech; it is not like his speech when he is awake, because it changes due to the jinni's speech. This type of epilepsy, we ask Allah to protect us and you from it and from other afflictions. The treatment for this type is by recitation, by recitation from people of knowledge and goodness. They recite over this epileptic person. Sometimes the jinni addresses them and speaks with them and explains the reason that made him cause this human to have an epileptic fit. And sometimes he does not speak. And this has been established: I mean the epilepsy of the jinni for the human, by the Qur'an and the Sunnah and reality. In the Qur'an, Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Baqarah 2:275] : And this is evidence that the Shaytan strikes the human with possession and epilepsy. And in the Sunnah, Imam Ahmad narrated in his *Musnad*: , and likewise the people of knowledge used to address the jinni in the epileptic person and speak with him. Among them was Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him). Ibn al-Qayyim, who was his student, the student of Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, mentioned: " That a man with epilepsy was brought to him, to Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah. So he began to recite over him and address him, saying to him: Fear Allah. It was a woman: Fear Allah, come out. So she said to him: I want this man, I love him. So Shaykh al-Islam said to her: But he does not love you, come out. She said: I want to perform Hajj with him. He said: He does not want you to perform Hajj with him, come out. So she refused, and he began to recite over her and strike the man, striking him a great strike until the hand of Shaykh al-Islam said: I caused him pain from the severity of the strike. So the jinni woman said: I will come out as a favor to the Shaykh. He said: Do not come out as a favor to me, come out in obedience to Allah and His Messenger. So he persisted with her until she came out. When she came out, the man woke up and said: What brought me to the presence of the Shaykh? What brought me to you? In place of Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah. They said: Subhan Allah, did you not feel the striking that was being done to you, the most severe it could be? He said: I did not feel the striking, and I did not feel anything " , and there are many examples of this. This type of epilepsy has a treatment that repels it, and a treatment that removes it. Its treatment is of two types: repelling and removing. As for repelling it, it is that the person strives to maintain the prescribed morning and evening recitations, which are known in the books of the people of knowledge, among them: Ayat al-Kursi, for whoever reads it in the night, a protector from Allah remains over him, and no Shaytan approaches him until he becomes morning. And among them: [Al-Ikhlas 112:1] , [Al-Falaq 113:1] , [An-Nas 114:1] , and among them are hadiths that came from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). So let the person strive to do them in the morning and evening, for that is among the causes of repelling the harm of the jinn. And as for removing it, it is when it happens to a person, that verses from the Qur'an are recited over him that warn and caution and seek refuge in Allah (Mighty and Majestic) until it comes out. The point of this hadith is the statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to this woman: Sahih Muslim 2576 : So in this is evidence of the virtue of patience, and that it is a cause for entering Paradise. And Allah is the One who grants success.
