The reader: He said (may Allah have mercy on him): " حتى إذا مضت أربعون من الخمسين واستلبثَ الوحي ، إذا رسولُ رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يأتيني ، فقال : إن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يأمركَ أن تعتزل امرأتك ، فقلت : أطلقها أم ماذا أفعل ؟ Until forty of the fifty had passed and the revelation was delayed, when a messenger of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me and said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) commands you to separate from your wife." I said: "Should I divorce her or what should I do?" He said: "No, but separate from her and do not approach her." He sent to my two companions with the same message. I said to my wife: "Go back to your family and stay with them until Allah decides this matter." The wife of Hilal ibn Umayyah came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said to him: "O Messenger of Allah, Hilal ibn Umayyah is an old man who is in a state of distress and has no servant. Do you dislike that I serve him?" He said: "No, but he must not approach you." She said: "By Allah, he has no movement toward anything, and by Allah, he has not stopped crying since what happened to him until this day." Some of my family said to me: "Why don't you seek permission from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding your wife? He has permitted the wife of Hilal ibn Umayyah to serve him." I said: "I will not seek permission from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding her, and I do not know what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) will say if I seek his permission, and I am a young man!" I remained in that state for ten nights, so fifty nights were completed for us from the time we were forbidden to speak. Then I prayed the Fajr prayer on the morning of the fiftieth night on the roof of one of our houses. While I was sitting in the state that Allah the Exalted mentioned of us, my soul had become narrow to me and the earth had become narrow to me despite its vastness, I heard the voice of a caller who had reached the top of al-Sal' saying at the top of his voice: "O Ka'b ibn Malik, rejoice!" I fell into prostration and I knew that relief had come. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) announced to the people the repentance of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) for us when he prayed the Fajr prayer. The people went to bring us good news. Those who went to my two companions brought them good news, and a man rode a horse to me and a runner from Aslam, who had been forgiven before me, ran and reached the top of the mountain, and the voice was faster than the horse. When the one whose voice I had heard bringing me good news came to me, I took off my two garments and clothed him with them because of his good news, and by Allah, I did not possess anything else at that time. I borrowed two garments and put them on, and I set out to head toward the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The people met me group after group, congratulating me on the repentance and saying to me: "May the repentance of Allah be a joy for you" until I entered the mosque. " .
