Continuation of the explanation of the statement of Imam al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) regarding what he quoted: "."

The Shaykh : And so it is with the Jews. The Jews, my brothers, are people of treachery, betrayal, and breaking of covenants, from the time Musa (peace be upon him) was sent among them until this day and until the Day of Resurrection. They are the most treacherous of people regarding covenants and the most treacherous regarding trusts. Therefore, they are never to be trusted, neither in a direct nor an indirect way. Whoever trusts them or has confidence in them has, in reality, not known their conduct since ancient times. The important point is that Khaybar was a fortress and farms belonging to them, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) raided them, and Allah granted victory through his hands. The rest of the hadith will come, if Allah wills.
The reader: The author (may Allah have mercy on him) quoted: "From Abu al-Abbas Sahl ibn Sa'd al-Sa'idi (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said on the day of Khaybar:
"Tomorrow I will give this flag to a man through whose hands Allah will give us victory. He loves Allah and His Apostle, and he is loved by Allah and His Apostle." The people remained that night, wondering as to who would be given it. In the morning the people went to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and everyone of them was hopeful to receive it (i.e. the flag). The Prophet said, "Where is `Ali bin Abi Talib?" It was said, "He is suffering from eye trouble O Allah's Apostle." He said, "Send for him." `Ali was brought and Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) spat in his eye and invoked good upon him. So `Ali was cured as if he never had any trouble. Then the Prophet (ﷺ) gave him the flag. `Ali said "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! I will fight with them till they become like us." Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "Proceed and do not hurry. When you enter their territory, call them to embrace Islam and inform them of Allah's Rights which they should observe, for by Allah, even if a single man is led on the right path (of Islam) by Allah through you, then that will be better for you than the nice red camels.
Sahih al-Bukhari 4210

The Shaykh : The author (may Allah have mercy on him) said, in what he quoted from Abu al-Abbas Sahl ibn Sa'd al-Sa'idi (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said on the day of Khaybar:
I would certainly give this standard to a person at whose hand Allah would grant victory and who loves Allah and His Messenger and Allah and His Messenger love him also.
Sahih Muslim 2406
These are two great merits. The first is that Allah grants victory through his hands, because whoever Allah grants victory through his hands attains much good. Indeed, if Allah guides one man through him, it is better for him than red camels, meaning red camels. The red camels were specifically mentioned because they are the most valuable of wealth among the Arabs. The second is his saying:
loves Allah and His Messenger, and Allah and His Messenger love him
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3725Da'if (Darussalam)
In this lies a distinction for 'Ali ibn Abi Talib, because the people that night were discussing, meaning they were talking and speculating: Who is this man? Who is this man? When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) rose in the morning, he said:
Where is `Ali bin Abi Talib?" It was said, "He is suffering from eye trouble O Allah's Apostle.
Sahih al-Bukhari 4210
Meaning his eyes were paining him and he was complaining of them.
He called for him, and he was brought to him. He spat in his eyes and made a supplication for him, and he was cured.
As-Sunan al-Kubra lil-Nasa'i 60:46
As if he had never had any pain, because this is among the signs of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). There was no drop of medicine or cauterization; it was only the saliva of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and his supplication.
applied saliva to his eyes and invoked blessings and he was all right, as if he had no ailment at all
Sahih Muslim 2406
In this is evidence that it is permissible for people to discuss a matter so that they may scrutinize who will receive it, because the Companions spent that night discussing who would receive this? Who would receive this? Each one said: Perhaps it is me. In this is also evidence that a person may be granted by Allah (Glorified and Exalted) virtues that he had not even imagined. 'Ali was not present, and perhaps he had no knowledge of the matter at all, and yet Allah granted him this merit. In this is evidence that a person may be deprived of a thing while expecting it, and may be given a thing while it has not even crossed his mind.
Then he gave him the banner.
The banner means the flag, the flag that serves as a sign for the people in the state of jihad, because in jihad the people are divided into this side and that side, and this tribe and that tribe, or this group of people, such as the Muhajireen and the Ansar, each having a banner, meaning a flag that indicates them.
He gave him the banner, and he said: “O Messenger of Allah, shall I fight them until they become like us?”
Sunan al-Bayhaqi 16:842
Meaning, do I fight them until they become Muslims, or what? So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him:
Proceed to them steadily till you approach near to them
Sahih al-Bukhari 3701
And he did not say, "Fight them until they become like us." This is because disbelievers are not fought for Islam and forced into it, but rather they are fought so that they submit to the rulings of Islam. If they become Muslims, that is for them; and if they remain disbelievers, that is upon them. But they must submit to the rulings of Islam, either by paying the jizyah from their own hand while in a state of humiliation, or by entering Islam. The scholars (may Allah have mercy on them) differed on whether this is specific to the People of the Book, meaning fighting them until they pay the jizyah, or whether it is general for all disbelievers? Most of the scholars say that those who are fought until they pay the jizyah or become Muslims are the People of the Book, the Jews and the Christians. As for others, they are fought until they become Muslims, and nothing is accepted from them but Islam. They cited as evidence the saying of Allah (Glorified and Exalted):
Fight those who do not believe in Allah or in the Last Day and who do not consider unlawful what Allah and His Messenger have made unlawful and who do not adopt the religion of truth from those who were given the Scripture - [fight] until they give the jizyah willingly while they are humbled.
[At-Tawbah 9:29]
He said: "Fight them until they pay the jizyah." And the correct view is that it is general, and the evidence for that is
that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, took jizya from the magians of Bahrain
Muwatta Malik 17:45
And they are not People of the Book, as al-Bukhari narrated. The second evidence is the hadith of Buraydah ibn al-Husayb, which Muslim narrated:
That the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), when he appointed a commander over an army or a detachment, would advise him and those with him to treat the Muslims well.
And in the hadith he mentioned
That he invites them to Islam, and if they refuse, then the jizyah, and if they refuse, then fight them.
Musannaf Abd al-Razzaq 15:143
And it is general. This is the correct view. Therefore, the Prophet (peace be upon him) did not say to 'Ali, "Fight them until they become like us?" No, fight them until they become like us. Rather, he guided him to do what he was commanded: to proceed at his own pace until he comes down upon their camp. And his saying:
At your own pace.
Meaning, do not tire yourself, and do not walk in haste so that you tire yourself, and the army tires, and those with you tire. But proceed at your own pace until you come down upon their camp, meaning to be near them.
and then invite them to Islam
Sahih al-Bukhari 3701
And the rest of the speech will come, if Allah wills.
