Explanation of the words of Imam al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) regarding what he quoted: "

The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) said, regarding what he quoted from Harithah ibn Wahb (may Allah be pleased with him) in: "The Chapter on the Weak and Humble of the Muslims": that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2605Sahih (Darussalam) This means that this is one of the signs of the people of Paradise: that a person is weak and humbles himself, meaning he does not care about his position or his prestige, nor does he strive for high status in this world. Rather, he is weak in himself and humbles himself, inclining toward obscurity and not appearing, because he sees that what matters is having prestige with Allah (Mighty and Majestic), not being noble among his people or having greatness among them. But he sees that the most important thing of all is to have a high, exalted rank with Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He).
Therefore, you will find that the people of the Hereafter do not care about what they miss from this world. If something from this world comes to them, they accept it, and if they miss something, they do not care about it, because they see that what Allah willed happened, and what He did not will did not happen, and that affairs are in the hand of Allah, and that changing the state is impossible, and that it is not possible to raise what has occurred or avert what has been decreed except through the lawful means that Allah the Exalted has made a cause. As for the people of the Fire, He said, "Shall I inform you?" Yes.
And His saying:Sunan Ibn Majah 2649Sahih (Darussalam) This often happens: a person swears to something in trust in Allah (Mighty and Majestic) and in hope of His reward, and Allah fulfills his oath. As for the one who swears by Allah in arrogance and hardness toward His mercy, then this person is abandoned, and I seek refuge in Allah.
Here are two examples:
That al-Rubayyih bint al-Nuḍr (may Allah be pleased with her), who was from the Ansar, broke the front tooth of a girl from the Ansar, so they brought the matter to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that al-Rubayyih's front tooth be broken, due to the saying of Allah the Exalted: "And We wrote for them therein that the soul is [to be punished] in exchange for the soul" up to His saying: "and the tooth for the tooth." Then her brother Anas ibn al-Nuḍr said: "By Allah, O Messenger of Allah, do not break al-Rubayyih's front tooth." He said: "O Anas, the Book of Allah is retaliation." He said: "By Allah, do not break al-Rubayyih's front tooth.".
He swore this not as a rejection of the ruling of Allah and His Messenger, but he tried as much as he could to speak with her people so that they would pardon and take the blood money, or pardon her for free. It was as if he was confident that he would do what he could, not as a rejection of the ruling of Allah and His Messenger. So Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) made it easy, and her people pardoned her,.
And there is no doubt that what motivated Anas ibn al-Nuḍr was the strength of his hope in Allah (Mighty and Majestic), and that Allah would make easy the means that would prevent the breaking of his sister al-Rubayyih's front tooth.
As for the second: the one who swore by Allah in arrogance, self-importance, and pride, then Allah frustrates his hopes. An example of that is:. What motivated him to do that was his self-admiration, his hardness toward the favor and mercy of Allah, and his deeming it unlikely that the mercy of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) would reach His servants.
, so look at the difference between this and that.
So the saying of the Messenger (may the prayer and peace be upon him):Sunan Ibn Majah 2649Sahih (Darussalam), is for partiality, Sunan Ibn Majah 2649Sahih (Darussalam), and that is for the one who swore by Allah in trust in Him and in hope of what is with Allah (Mighty and Majestic).
Then he (may the prayer and peace be upon him) said:Sahih al-Bukhari 4918: these are the signs of the people of the Fire.
: meaning that he is harsh and rough, his heart is a stone, and I seek refuge in Allah, like stones or even harder in severity.
: There are multiple interpretations of al-Jawwaz. It was said that it is the one who hoards and withholds, meaning the one who gathers wealth and withholds what is obligatory in it. And the apparent meaning of al-Jawwaz is: the man who does not have patience; jawwaz means that he is impatient and does not endure anything, and he sees that he is at the peak, above being touched by anything.
And from that is the story of:, so look at this man who became impatient, was unable to bear it, and killed himself.
So al-Jawwaz is the impatient one who does not have patience, always in moaning, sadness, worry, and grief, objecting to the divine decree and destiny, not submitting to it, and not being pleased with Allah as Lord.
And as for al-Mustakbir, he is the one who combined two descriptions: belittling people, and arrogance toward the truth. Because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said:Sahih Muslim 91a. Arrogance toward the truth means rejecting it, and belittling people means looking down on them. So he is, in his own self, above the truth and above creation; he does not soften toward the truth nor show mercy to creation, and I seek refuge in Allah.
So these are the signs of the people of the Fire. We ask Allah to protect us and you from the Fire, and to admit us and you into Paradise. Indeed, He is Generous and Noble.
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) said, regarding what he quoted from Harithah ibn Wahb (may Allah be pleased with him) in: "The Chapter on the Weak and Humble of the Muslims": that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Should I not inform you about the people of Paradise: They are every humble and weak person, who if he were to make an Oath by Allah, He would fulfill it.
Therefore, you will find that the people of the Hereafter do not care about what they miss from this world. So Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) made it easy, and her people pardoned her,
The people of the girl pardoned the retaliation, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: "Indeed, among the servants of Allah are some who, if they swear by Allah, He would fulfill it."
An example of that is:
The man who was obedient to Allah (Mighty and Majestic) and worshipping Him, would pass by a disobedient man, and every time he passed by him, he found him in sin. So he said: "By Allah, Allah will not forgive so-and-so."
So Allah the Exalted said: "Who is it who swears by Me—meaning swears upon Me—that I will not forgive so-and-so? I have forgiven him, and I have nullified your deed."
So the saying of the Messenger (may the prayer and peace be upon him):
there are among the slaves of Allah
مِنthere are among the slaves of Allah those who, if they swear by Allah, Allah fulfills their oath.
Then he (may the prayer and peace be upon him) said:
And may I inform you of the people of the Hell-Fire? They are all those violent, arrogant and stubborn people.
Harsh
Impatient, arrogant
And from that is the story of:
The man who was with the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) in a military expedition, and he was brave, leaving no small or large matter of the enemy without dealing with it. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: This man is from the people of the Fire. This was a great shock to the Companions, and they said: How can this man be from the people of the Fire when he is of this stature? Then a man said: By Allah, I will keep close to him—meaning I will stay with him—until I see what happens to him. So he stayed with him, and an arrow hit him—an arrow from the enemy hit this brave man—and he was unable to be patient and panicked. Then he took the hilt of his sword, placed it on his chest, and leaned on it until the sword came out of his back, may Allah protect us, and he killed himself. So the man came to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah, I bear witness that you are the Messenger of Allah. He said: And how? He said: Because the man you said was from the people of the Fire did such and such. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: A man may do the deeds of the people of Paradise in what appears to people, yet he is from the people of the Fire.
Because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said:
Pride is disdaining the truth (out of self-conceit) and contempt for the people.
So these are the signs of the people of the Fire. We ask Allah to protect us and you from the Fire, and to admit us and you into Paradise. Indeed, He is Generous and Noble.
