What are the best places for supplication in the prayer?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Regarding the best time for supplication: is it during the sunnah or after finishing the sunnah?

Answer:
Supplication during prostration is the best, in prostration and at the end of the prayer before one says the taslim. It is not after the taslim, but before one says the taslim. This is the best and closest to being answered, and likewise during prostration. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The nearest a servant come to his Lord is when he is prostrating himself, so make supplication often.أقرب ما يكون العبد من ربه وهو ساجد، فأكثروا الدعاء
Sunan Abi Dawud 875Sahih (Al-Albani)
, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Glorify your Lord in Ruku' (bowing posture) and exert yourself in supplication in prostration. Thus your supplications are liable to be accepted.أما الركوع فعظّموا فيه الرب، وأما السجود فاجتهدوا في الدعاء، فقَمِن أن يستجاب لكم
Riyad as-Salihin 1427
, meaning it is likely that it will be answered for you. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
When anyone of you finishes the last Tashah-hud, let him seek refuge with Allah from four thingsإذا فرغ أحدكم من التشهد الأخير فليستعذ بالله من أربع
Sunan Ibn Majah 909Sahih (Darussalam)
, and in the hadith of Ibn Mas'ud he said:
When he has finished the tashahhud, let him choose from supplication whatever he likes and then supplicate.إذا فرغ من التشهد ليتخير من الدعاء أعجبه إليه ثم يدعو
, meaning before one says the taslim. This is the best.
