Question: I am the mother of three daughters. I gave birth to one daughter from my first husband and two daughters from my second husband. I have a son through breastfeeding who was breastfed along with my first daughter from my first husband. Will this son be considered a brother to the two daughters from my second husband?
Answer: If you breastfed the person mentioned five times or more while he was within the first two years of his life, then by doing so he becomes your son and the son of your first husband, and a brother to your daughters from all your husbands—whether they were born before him or after him—and a brother to the children of your first husband, whether from you or from another woman. This is based on the statement of Allah, the Exalted, in explaining those who are forbidden to be married: [Al-Nisa: 23], and the statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Sunan Ibn Majah 1937Sahih (Darussalam) It is agreed upon that this hadith is authentic.
