The milk of the first wife makes her husband the father of the child through breastfeeding, and he becomes a mahram (a relative one may not marry) to the second wife; because he is her husband's son through breastfeeding. Allah the Exalted said:[An-Nur 24:31], and it is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: Sahih al-Bukhari 3105, and it is established from A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: "There was in what was revealed of the Qur'an: 'Ten known breastfeedings make a person a mahram,' then this was abrogated by: 'Five known breastfeedings.' The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away while the matter was still on that basis." A breastfeed is defined as: the child holding the breast and sucking milk from it; if he leaves it to catch his breath or to move, that counts as one breastfeed. If he returns and sucks milk, that is two, and so on. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
