The Ruling on a Woman Cutting Her Hair
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the ruling on a woman cutting her hair, given that the women of this era adorn themselves by cutting it, even if they are not married? Does it have limits? And what is the ruling on the slanted parting? We ask for detail in this matter due to the much confusion surrounding it?
Answer:
It is not permissible for women to cut their hair; because hair is beauty for them, and because cutting it is mutilation, and cutting part of it is qaza' (shaving patches). However, if it becomes very long and they take from its ends, there is no harm; because it is established from the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that they took from the ends of their heads after his death (peace and blessings be upon him), and because if it becomes very long, it may tire the woman and be difficult for her in washing and combing it. As for the slanted parting, it is not permissible; because it is imitating the women who are inclined to evil and incline others to it. And success is from Allah.
