The Reciter: He said -may Allah have mercy on him-: "The Book of the Etiquette of Travel: Chapter on the Recommendation of Departing on Thursday, and the Recommendation of Departing at the Beginning of the Day:
It was narrated from Ka'b ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him):Riyad as-Salihin 956 Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim.
And in a narration in the two Sahihs:Riyad as-Salihin 956 " .
The Shaykh : The author said -may Allah have mercy on him-: "The Book of the Etiquette of Travel": Travel is leaving one's homeland, that a person departs from his homeland to another country or to the wilderness. It is called travel (safar) because it is from the word "isfar" which means going out and appearing, just as it is said: "The dawn has appeared" (asfara al-subh), when it emerges and becomes visible. It was also said regarding the meaning: Travel is called travel because it reveals the characters of men, meaning it clarifies and makes evident the characters of men. How many a person you do not know and do not know his conduct, except when you travel with him, you know his character and you know his conduct and you know his preference for others over himself, and so on. Until the Commander of the Faithful, 'Umar, when someone would recommend a person to him, he would say to him: "Have you traveled with him? Have you dealt with him? If he said: Yes, he would accept his recommendation, otherwise he would say: You have no knowledge of him."
Then, a person should seek the times in travel that are easier, more suitable, and more appropriate. Among these is that it be at the end of the week, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in most of his travels would depart on a Thursday. And sometimes he would depart on a day other than Thursday; he departed on a Saturday on his last journey, which was the Farewell Pilgrimage. But barely did he depart when he traveled, especially in warfare, except on a Thursday. And the wisdom of that, and Allah knows best, is that it is the day on which deeds are written and presented to Allah the Exalted. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) loved that his work in warfare be presented to Allah at the beginning of the warfare on that day. And he (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) loved to depart at the beginning of the day, because of the greeting of the day in that, for a person may be surprised in his travel by things at night when he has already prepared, and it becomes difficult for him to get rid of them. And this is in the travels that were in the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) on mounts and on foot. But today, as you see, people have full preparation whether they travel at the beginning of the day or at the end of it. Then, travel in our present time may not be by the choice of the person as it should be; it may be tied to airplanes and their schedules may not be suitable. In any case, if he departs at the beginning of the day and on a Thursday, it is better. And if that is not facilitated for him, the matter is broad and praise is to Allah.
Then he mentioned the hadith of Sakhr (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said:Sunan Ibn Majah 2236 meaning: in the early morning of its day. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicated that Allah bless the early morning of the day for his Ummah, because the early morning is the beginning of work. For the day, as Allah the Exalted said, is a means of livelihood: [An-Naba 78:10-11]: So if a person greets it from its beginning, there is blessing in that. And this is something observed: that a person, if he works from the beginning of the day, finds blessing in his work. But unfortunately, most of us today sleep at the beginning of the day and do not wake up until the late morning (duha), so the beginning of the day, which contains the blessing, is missed by them. And the common people have said: "The commander of the day is its beginning": meaning that the beginning of the day is where the work is concentrated.
Sunan Abi Dawud 2606Sahih (Al-Albani): Because of the supplication of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for blessing for this Ummah in its early morning. And Allah is the One who grants success.
It was narrated from Ka'b ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him):
The Prophet (ﷺ) set out on Thursday for the expedition of Tabuk. He liked to set out on a journey on Thursdays.
أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم خرج في غزوة تبوك يوم الخميس، وكان يحب أن يخرج يوم الخميسAnd in a narration in the two Sahihs:
He liked to set out on a journey on Thursdays.
