The thief seeks pardon for theft, the prostitute for fornication, and the rich man reflects and gives charity without being stingy.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The thief seeks pardon for theft, the prostitute for fornication, and the rich man reflects and gives charity without being stingy.
In this hadith is evidence that if a person intends good and strives for it but misses it, it is written for him and it does not harm him. For this reason, the scholars (may Allah have mercy on them) said: "If he gives his zakah to one he thinks is among the people of zakah, and it turns out that he is not among the people of zakah, then it suffices him". For example, if you see a man in tattered clothes, wearing tattered garments, and you think he is poor, so you give him zakah, and then the people say: So-and-so is rich, he has much wealth. Does your zakah suffice you? The answer?
The student: Yes.

The Shaykh : Your zakah suffices you, because it was said to this man:
Your charity has been accepted
Sahih Muslim 1022
, your zakah suffices you. And likewise, if you give it to someone else whom you thought was deserving but he was not deserving, then it suffices you. And success is from Allah.
The reader: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions:
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) transmitted in his book *Riyad al-Salihin*: "Narrated by Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:
We were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) at a feast, and a shoulder of meat was brought to him, and it pleased him. So he took a bite from it and said: "I am the master of people on the Day of Resurrection. Do you know why that is? Allah will gather the first and the last in one plain, so the one who looks will see them, and the one who calls will hear them, and the sun will be brought close to them. The people will be afflicted with grief and distress that they cannot bear or endure. So the people will say: 'Do you not see what you are in, and what has befallen you? Do you not look for someone to intercede for you to your Lord?' So some of the people will say to others: 'Your father Adam.' So they will come to him and say: 'O Adam, you are the father of mankind. Allah created you with His Hand and breathed into you of His Spirit, and He commanded the angels and they prostrated to you, and He settled you in Paradise. Will you not intercede for us to your Lord? Do you not see what we are in and what has befallen us?' So he will say: 'My Lord was angry today with an anger like which He was not angry before, and He will not be angry with such an anger after. And He forbade me from the tree, so I disobeyed. Myself, myself, myself. Go to someone other than me. Go to Noah.' So they will come to Noah and say: 'O Noah, you are the first of the messengers to the earth, and Allah has named you a grateful servant. Do you not see what we are in? Do you not see what has befallen us? Will you not intercede for us to your Lord?' So he will say: 'My Lord was angry today with an anger like which He was not angry before, and He will not be angry with such an anger after. And I had a supplication which I made against my people. Myself, myself, myself. Go to Ibrahim.' So they will say: 'O Ibrahim! You are the Prophet of Allah and His intimate friend from among the people of the earth. Intercede for us to your Lord. Do you not see what we are in?' So he will say to them: 'My Lord was angry today with an anger like which He was not angry before, and He will not be angry with such an anger after. And I told three lies. Myself, myself, myself. Go to someone other than me. Go to Musa.' So they will come to Musa. So they will say: 'O Musa, you are the Messenger of Allah, and Allah has preferred you over the people with His messengership and His speech. Intercede for us to your Lord. Do you not see what we are in?' So he will say: 'My Lord was angry today with an anger like which He was not angry before, and He will not be angry with such an anger after. And I killed a soul for which I was not commanded to kill it. Myself, myself, myself. Go to someone other than me. Go to Isa.' So they will come to Isa, and they will say: 'O Isa, you are the Messenger of Allah and His word which He cast to Maryam, and a spirit from Him. You spoke to the people in the cradle. Intercede for us to your Lord. Do you not see what we are in?' So Isa will say: 'My Lord was angry today with an anger like which He was not angry before, and He will not be angry with such an anger after. And he did not mention a sin. Myself, myself, myself. Go to someone other than me. Go to Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)."
.
And in another narration:
So they will come to me and say: 'O Muhammad, you are the Messenger of Allah, and the Seal of the Prophets, and Allah has forgiven you what came before of your sin and what came after. Intercede for us to your Lord. Do you not see what we are in?' So I will set out, and I will come under the Throne, and I will fall prostrate to my Lord. Then Allah will open for me from His praises and good words about Him something that He has not opened for anyone before me. Then it will be said: 'O Muhammad, raise your head, ask and you will be given, and intercede and you will be granted intercession.' So I will raise my head, and I will say: 'My Ummah, O my Lord, my Ummah, O my Lord, my Ummah, O my Lord.' So it will be said: 'O Muhammad, let enter from your Ummah those who have no reckoning upon them from the right gate of the gates of Paradise, and they will be partners with the people in the rest of the gates.' Then he said: 'By Him in whose Hand is my soul, the distance between the two doors of the doors of Paradise is like the distance between Makkah and Hajar, or like the distance between Makkah and Bussrah.'
Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim"

The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
This long hadith which the author (may Allah have mercy on him) cited at the end of his book *Riyad al-Salihin* from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him):
That they were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) at a feast, so a shoulder of meat was brought to him, and he took a bite from it, and it pleased him.
: The shoulder means the shoulder of the sheep. It used to please the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) because its meat is the best of the body in terms of meat; it is soft, quickly digested, and beneficial. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to like to eat from it.
He took a bite from it, then he narrated to them this wonderful, long hadith and said:
I shall be pre-eminent amongst the descendants of Adam on the Day of Resurrection
Sahih Muslim 2278
Abu Hurairah narrated that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said: "Allah will gather mankind on the Day of Resurrection on a single plane, then the Lord of the Worlds will come to them and say: 'Let every person follow what they used to worship.' So to the worshipper of the cross, his cross shall be symbolized to him, and to the worshipper of images his images, and to the worshipper of fire his fire. They will follow what they used to worship, and the Muslims will remain. Then the Lord of the Worlds will come to them and say: 'Do you not follow the people?' So they will say: 'We seek refuge in Allah from you, we seek refuge in Allah from you, Allah is our Lord, and we shall remain here until we see our Lord.' And He orders them and makes them firm.'"Thy said: "And you will see Him, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "Are you harmed in seeing the moon on the night of a full moon?" They said: "No, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "So you will not be harmed in seeing Him at that hour. Then He will conceal Himself, then He will come, and He will make them recognize Him, then He will say: "I am your Lord, so follow Me." So the Muslims will arise and the Sirat shall be placed, and they shall be placed, and they shall pass by it the like of excellent horses and camels and their statement upon it shall be, "Grant them safety, grant them safety." And the people of Fire shall remain, then a party of them shall be cast down into it, and it shall be said (to the Fire): 'Have you become full?' So it shall say: Is there more? Then a party of them shall be cast down into it, and it shall be said: 'Have you become full?' So it shall say: Is there more? Until when they are all included into it, Ar-Rahman (the Most-Merciful) shall place His foot in it and its sides shall be all brought together, then He will say: 'Enough.' It will say 'Enough, enough.' So when Allah, the Exalted, has admitted the people of Paradise into Paradise and the people of Fire into Fire"- [He said:]- "Death shall be brought in by the collar and stood on the wall that is between the people of Paradise and the people of the Fire, then it will be said: 'O people of Paradise!' They will come near, afraid. Then it will be said: 'O people of the Fire!' They will come rejoicing, hoping for intercession. Then it will be said to the people of Paradise and the people of the Fire: 'Do you recognize this?' So they will-both of them-say: 'We recognize it. It is Death which was given charge of us,' so it will be laid down and slaughtered upon the wall [the one that is between Paradise and the Fire], then it will be said: 'O people of Paradise! Everlasting life without death!' And 'O people of the Fire! Everlasting life without death!'" There are many narrations such as this reported from the Prophet ﷺ mentioning Ar-Ru'yah (seeing Allah) and that the people will see their Lord, and mentioning the Foot and similar to these things. And the chosen approach concerning this with the people of knowledge from the A'immah such as Sufyãn Ath-Thawri, Mãlik bin Anas, Sufyan bin 'Uyainah, Ibn Al Mubãrak, Waki' and other than them, is that they report these narrations then say: "We report these Hadith as they are, and we believe in them, and it is not to be said, 'how?" This is the path and approach which the people of Hadith have chosen - that they report these narrations as they have come, they are believed in, they are not explained, 1 doubts are not to be cast upon them, and it is not to be said "how?" - This is the order of the people of knowledge which they chose and took as their approach. The meaning of his statement in the Hadith: "And He will make them recognize Him" is "He manifests Himself to them in His Glory." 1:That is, their "how" is not to be brought into question.
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2557Sahih. [Abu 'Eisa said:] This Hadith is Hasan Sahih. (Darussalam)
: So he presented to them an explanation of his (peace and blessings be upon him) honor and his excellence over all the sons of Adam.
It mentions that people will be gathered, meaning: they will be collected on the Day of Resurrection on a single plain, the first of them and the last of them, from the first one to the last one, as He (Mighty and Majestic) said:
(49) Say, [O Muhammad], "Indeed, the former and the later peoples (50) Are to be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day."
[Al-Waqi'ah 56:49-50]
: They will be gathered on a single plain, and the earth on that day will be spread out, not as it is today. For today it is like a sphere, spherical; if you extend your gaze, you do not see the whole earth, you do not see except what faces you of its surface only. But on the Day of Resurrection, the earth will be spread out like the spreading of leather, the spreading of skin, and there will be no mountains, no valleys, no rivers, and no seas. It will be spread out in one stretch, and the world will be in it.
where they will (all) be able to hear a caller, and all of them will be visible
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2434Sahih (Darussalam)

On that day, the sun will be brought close to the creatures by the distance of a mile, and they will be afflicted with distress and anguish that they cannot bear or endure. The earth will become narrow for them, and they will seek intercession, hoping that someone will intercede for them with Allah (Mighty and Majestic) to save them from this great standing, at the very least.
Allah, Mighty and Majestic, inspires them to come to Adam, the father of mankind, and they come to him and explain his virtue, hoping that he will intercede for them with Allah, Mighty and Majestic. They say to him:
You are Adam, the father of mankind
Sahih al-Bukhari 7516
: All of mankind are from the children of Adam; all of mankind are the sons of Adam, male and female, until the Day of Resurrection.
Allah created you with His Hand
: As the Exalted said, rebuking Iblis:
what prevented you from prostrating to that which I created with My hands?
[Sad 38:75]
: He created him with His Hand, and He created the rest of mankind by the word: "Be, and it is." As for Adam, the Exalted and Majestic created him with His Hand. They say:
and Allah created you with His Own Hands, and ordered the angels to prostrate to you
Sahih al-Bukhari 4476
, Allah the Exalted said:
And [mention] when We said to the angels, "Prostrate before Adam"; so they prostrated
[Al-Baqarah 2:34]
,
and He taught you the names of all things
Sahih al-Bukhari 7516
: Allah the Exalted said:
And He taught Adam the names - all of them
[Al-Baqarah 2:31]
,
and blew into you of His Spirit
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2134Sahih (Darussalam)
: Allah the Exalted said:
And when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My [created] soul, then fall down to him in prostration." فإذا سويته ونفخت فيه من روحي فقعوا له ساجدين
[Al-Hijr 15:29]
: All of this is known by creation, and especially the Ummah of Muhammad, to whom Allah the Exalted granted knowledge that He did not grant to any other nation.
So he will make excuses and say: My Lord was angry today with an anger like which He has never been angry, and He will never be angry with such an anger again.
, then he mentions his sin: that Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, forbade him to eat from a tree, but he ate. Allah the Exalted said:
But do not approach this tree, lest you be among the wrongdoers." ولا تقربا هذه الشجرة فتكونا من الظالمين
[Al-Baqarah 2:35]
: A tree in Paradise; we do not know what this tree is, nor its type, nor its size, whether large or small. It is a tree that Allah has left ambiguous, so it is upon us to believe in it as it is. He was forbidden to eat from it, and it was made clear to him that if he and his wife ate from it, they would be among the wrongdoers. But their enemy, Shaytan, led them astray through delusion and whispered to them.
And he swore [by Allah] to them, "Indeed, I am to you from among the sincere advisors."
[Al-A'raf 7:21]
: So he deceived them, and Adam forgot what he had covenanted with Allah, Mighty and Majestic:
And Adam disobeyed his Lord and erred.
, he forgot and ate from the tree, so he was punished by being taken out of Paradise to the earth for a wisdom that Allah, Mighty and Majestic, intends. He mentions his disobedience and says:
My soul, my soul, my soul.
: meaning, perhaps I will save myself, and he repeats this and emphasizes it three times.
Go to somebody else; go to Noah.
Sahih al-Bukhari 3340
: And Noah is the second father of humanity, because Allah drowned all the people of the earth who lied to Noah.
But none had believed with him, except a few.
[Hud 11:40]
, and Noah was the second father of mankind.
Go to Noah, they will come to Noah.
, because the people are in severe distress and hardship, seeking someone to intercede for them with Allah, Mighty and Majestic. They mention Allah’s blessings upon him, that he was the first messenger Allah sent to the people of the earth, and that Allah named him a grateful servant. But he says, as Adam did regarding the anger of Allah, Mighty and Majestic:
Today my Lord has become angry as He has never before been angry and will never be thereafter
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2434Sahih (Darussalam)
: Then he mentions the supplication he made against his people:
My Lord, do not leave upon the earth from among the disbelievers an inhabitant.
[Nuh 71:26]
: And in a narration: that he mentions the supplication he made for his son:
(45) And Noah called to his Lord and said, "My Lord, indeed my son is of my family; and indeed, Your promise is true; and You are the most just of judges!" (46) He said, "O Noah, indeed he is not of your family; indeed, he is [one whose] work was other than righteous, so ask Me not for that about which you have no knowledge. Indeed, I advise you, lest you be among the ignorant."
[Hud 11:45-46]
.
He mentions his sin, and the intercessor does not intercede unless there is nothing between him and the one for whom he intercedes that causes alienation. The disobedience of the servant to his Lord causes his alienation from his Lord and his shame before Him. So he mentions his disobedience and says:
My soul, my soul, my soul.
, and he directs them to Ibrahim, peace and blessings be upon him. And, if Allah wills, the rest of the speech on this great hadith will come. We ask Allah the Exalted, by His grace and generosity, to include us and you in the intercession of our Prophet, for He is capable of all things.
