Guidance for the sick who are negligent in prayer
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: Many of the sick are negligent in prayer and say: "If I am healed, I will make up the prayers." Some of them say: "How can I pray when I am unable to perform ritual purity or remove impurity from myself?" So how do you advise these people?
A: Illness does not prevent the performance of prayer on the grounds of inability to perform ritual purity, as long as the mind is present. Rather, it is obligatory for the sick person to pray according to his ability, and to purify himself with water if he is able to do so. If he is unable to use water, he performs dry ablution with clean earth and prays. He must wash the impurity from his body and his clothes at the time of prayer, or replace the impure clothes with pure clothes at the time of prayer. If he is unable to wash the impurity and unable to replace the impure clothes with pure clothes, that is dropped from him, and he prays according to his condition. This is based on the saying of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) : [Surat al-Taghabun: 16], and the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Sahih al-Bukhari 7288, which is agreed upon as authentic. And his (peace and blessings be upon him) saying to 'Imran ibn Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) when he complained to him of his illness, he said: Sunan Abi Dawud 952Sahih (Al-Albani), narrated by al-Bukhari in his Sahih, and narrated by al-Nasa'i with a sound chain, and he added: .
