The Ruling on Beating a Sick Person

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: We have a sick sister, and sometimes we beat her lightly, but we feel psychological pain from doing so. Is there any sin on us for that?

Answer: It is obligatory for you to consider her condition and not do anything that increases her illness. If she cannot tolerate being beaten, it is not permissible for you to beat her, and you should address her mistakes by other means. However, if the illness is mild and she makes mistakes and does some things that warrant light discipline, there is no harm in it, but you must consider her condition. If the beating harms her, do not beat her, for that would only add to her harm. But if this beating you do with her does not harm her because her illness is mild and there is a pressing need to discipline her so that she leaves off what is not permissible, then there is no blame on you.
