Do the righteous suffer from sorcery?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Can the righteous, who maintain the daily dhikr and recitations, be affected by sorcery?

Answer:
A person may be affected by sorcery, but if one holds fast to the rope of Allah, seeks refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created, and performs the prescribed seeking of refuge, Allah the Exalted will suffice him.
Q: How do we reconcile the fact that he (peace and blessings be upon him) was subjected to sorcery, when he is the best of people?
The Shaykh: ... It may be that the cause coincided with a time when there was no protection. It may be that he (peace and blessings be upon him) encountered a day or an hour in which he did not employ the means of protection.
Q: Was this before the Mu'awwidhat? May Allah reward you.
The Shaykh: Yes?
The student: Before the Mu'awwidhat were revealed?
The Shaykh: It is possible. Allah knows best. It is possible. It is obligatory for the believer to strive for the lawful protection and to strive for the seeking of refuge that Allah has prescribed, so that perhaps Allah the Exalted will suffice him from evil.
