The Exhortation to the Obligation of Dutifulness to Parents

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
After this, a message was sent by one of the female listeners, who describes herself as: A slave of Allah from Jizan, Dammam (E. F. Q). She has a lengthy message. In her first question, she complains about her situation with her mother and father, stating that her mother and father did not help her in being dutiful and obedient. Consequently, she feels distressed by this situation, O Shaykh, and she asks for your guidance and advice. May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
We advise you, O sister in Allah, we advise you to be dutiful and kind to them, even if they treat you badly. Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) has commanded kindness to parents. He, the Exalted, said:
Be grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the [final] destination.
[Luqman: 14]. And He, the Exalted, said:
(23) And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment. Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] with you, say not to them [so much as], "uff," and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word. (24) And lower to them the wing of humility out of mercy and say, "My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up [when I was] small."
[Al-Isra: 23-24]. And He said regarding disbelieving parents:
but accompany them in [this] world with appropriate kindness and follow the way of those who turn back to Meوَصَاحِبْهُمَا فِي الدُّنْيَا مَعْرُوفًا وَاتَّبِعْ سَبِيلَ مَنْ أَنَابَ إِلَيّ
[Luqman: 15]. So if one is kind to disbelieving parents, then being kind to Muslim parents is all the more so.
Therefore, it is obligatory for you to be patient, to seek reward from Allah, and to be kind to them, even if they treat you badly, and even if their character is bad. You must be patient, seek reward, and be dutiful to them with everything you can. We ask Allah for you to be helped, guided, and kept on the right path, and we ask Allah for them to be guided and kept on the right path.

The presenter : O Allah, amen. May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good.
