The Dhikr Recited During and After the Adhan

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What are the supplications recited after the adhan and after the prayer?

Answer:
After the adhan, first: one responds to the mu'adhdhin just as he says, based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
When you hear the Mu'adhdhin, repeat what he says, then invoke a blessing on me, for everyone who invokes a blessing on me will receive ten blessings from Allah; then beg from Allah al-Wasila for me, which is a rank in Paradise fitting for only one of Allah's servants, and I hope that I may be that one. If anyone who asks that I be given the Wasila, he will be assured of my intercession.
Sahih Muslim 384
.
So what is prescribed for the believing man and woman upon hearing the adhan is to say: just as he says, Allahu Akbar, he says: Allahu Akbar. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, he says: I bear witness that there is no god but Allah. I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, he says the same: I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. At the hay'ah, he says: There is no power and no strength except with Allah. When he says: Hayya 'ala al-salah, he says: There is no power and no strength except with Allah. And at Hayya 'ala al-falah, he says: There is no power and no strength except with Allah. Then he says: Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar when he says: Allahu Akbar. Then he says: La ilaha illa Allah at the end of the adhan, just like the mu'adhdhin.
Then he says:
O Allah: bless Muhammad and his family as Thou didst bless the family of Ibrahim. Verily Thou art Praiseworthy and Glorious, O Allah.
Sahih Muslim 406a
And if he shortens it and says: (O Allah, send blessings and peace upon the Messenger of Allah), I hope that this is sufficient.
Then he says:
O Allah, the Lord of this complete call and of this prayer, which is going to be established! Give Muhammad Al-Wasila and Al-Fadila and raise him to Al-Maqam-al-Mahmud which You have promised himاللهم رب هذه الدعوة التامة، والصلاة القائمة، آت محمدًا الوسيلة والفضيلة، وابعثه مقامًا محمودًا الذي وعدته
Sahih al-Bukhari 4719
Al-Bukhari narrated this in al-Sahih. Al-Bayhaqi added:
You do not break Your promise
Muwatta Malik 20:132
This is the legislated dhikr after the adhan.
He says just as the mu'adhdhin says, except at the hay'ah where he says: There is no power and no strength except with Allah. And after finishing, he sends blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), then he says:
O Allah, the Lord of this complete call and of this prayer, which is going to be established! Give Muhammad Al-Wasila
Sahih al-Bukhari 4719
Meaning: Grant our Prophet Muhammad the wasilah
Al-Fadila and raise him to Al-Maqam-al-Mahmud which You have promised himوالفضيلة وابعثه مقامًا محمودًا الذي وعدته، إنك لا تخلف الميعاد
Sahih al-Bukhari 4719
.
And he says at the two testimonies:
I am pleased with Allah as Lord, with Islam as religion and with Muhammad (ﷺ) as Apostle
Sunan Abi Dawud 1529Sahih (Al-Albani)
When he says: I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, he recites the two testimonies, and with them he says:
I am pleased with Allah as Lord, with Islam as religion and with Muhammad (ﷺ) as Apostle
Sunan Abi Dawud 1529Sahih (Al-Albani)
-may Allah's prayers and peace be upon him- because it is reported in al-Sahih from the hadith of Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Whoever says when responding to the mu'adhdhin at the testimony: I am pleased with Allah as my Lord, with Islam as my religion, and with Muhammad as my Messenger; his sins will be forgiven.
Meaning: at the testimony, when saying: I bear witness that there is no god but Allah. Yes.

The presenter : May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good. This is regarding the adhan for all times. If you would be so kind, O Shaykh, what about the adhan for Fajr, especially at the phrase: Prayer is better than sleep?

The Shaykh : This is what we said regarding the adhan, and so it is with the iqamah. The iqamah is responded to, because it is an adhan.
As for Fajr, he says at "Prayer is better than sleep" the same thing: Prayer is better than sleep, just like the mu'adhdhin in the Fajr prayer. He says: Prayer is better than sleep, prayer is better than sleep, just like the mu'adhdhin. Yes.

The presenter : May Allah bless you, reward you, and give you the best reward.
