The ruling on the prayer of one who is not proficient in reciting al-Fatihah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The questioner says: Umm 'Abd al-Majid from Jeddah says: My grandmother does not memorize except a little of the Noble Qur'an, as she makes mistakes in Surat al-Fatihah. Some people in our village told her: If you do not memorize Surat al-Fatihah in your prayer, then your prayer is not valid. Is this correct? She has died in that state. Is it true that the prayer of one who does not recite Surat al-Fatihah correctly is not accepted, O Shaykh?

Answer:
Her prayer is valid, and she is excused. Allah says:
So fear Allah as much as you are ableفَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ
[al-Taghabun:16]. As long as she tried and exerted herself but could not, her prayer is valid. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the one who is unable: Say: Subhan Allah, wa al-hamdu lillah, wa la ilaha illa Allah, wa Allah Akbar. If she is unable, and she tried her best but could not, she says: Subhan Allah, wa al-hamdu lillah, wa la ilaha illa Allah, wa Allah Akbar, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa bi-Allah, in place of the recitation, and that is sufficient.
As for the one who is able but intentionally does not recite al-Fatihah, his prayer is not valid; due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
There is no Salat for the one who does not recite Fatihatil-Kitab.لا صلاة لمن لم يقرأ بفاتحة الكتاب
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 247Sahih (Darussalam)
. But if a woman is unable, or a man is unable, Allah says:
So fear Allah as much as you are ableفَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ
[al-Taghabun:16]:
Allah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacityلا يُكَلِّفُ اللَّهُ نَفْسًا إِلَّا وُسْعَهَا
[al-Baqarah:286]. His prayer is valid, and praise be to Allah. But he should learn and recite the tasbih. He says the tasbih instead of al-Fatihah: Subhan Allah, wa al-hamdu lillah, wa la ilaha illa Allah, wa Allah Akbar. Yes.
