How a traveler can be dutiful to his parents
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The listener who used the initials (M. M.) for her name says in this question: Your Eminence! How can we be dutiful to our parents when we live in one country and they are in another? And if the father, or the mother, prays, but they do not maintain it at its proper time, or they pray it very quickly, what is required of us when we are far away from them?
Answer:
The son must advise his parents and be dutiful to them to the best of his ability; for Allah the Exalted said: [Surat al-Taghabun: 16]. If he is present, he does so with kind words and kind actions, and if he is absent, he does so by writing or by telephone. [Surat al-Taghabun: 16]. He advises them, greets them, and makes du'a for them, in writing, on the telephone, and when he is present, he makes du'a for them and thanks them for their good deeds. If he sees that they are falling short in prayer, or otherwise, he advises them with kind words and gentleness, as Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) said: [Surat Luqman: 14] [Surat Luqman: 15]. Then He said after that: [Surat Luqman: 15]. And they were disbelievers, so He said: [Surat Luqman: 15]. So He commanded the son to treat his parents with kindness, even if they were disbelievers; how much more so if they are Muslims?
So it is obligatory for the son, whether male or female, to fear Allah and to be dutiful to his parents in deed and word. If they are poor and he is able, he should spend on them. If they command him, he should obey them in what is right. When he visits them, he should greet them, respect them, and make du'a for them. If they are absent, he should correspond with them by writing or by telephone, making du'a for them and greeting them... and so on. He should strive in various forms of good. If they are in need, he should spend on them while he is able; for Allah says: [Surat al-Taghabun: 16].
A man said: O Messenger of Allah! Who is most deserving of my good companionship? He said:. He said: Then who? He said: . He said: Then who? He said: . He said: Then who? He said: Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1897Hasan (Darussalam). In another narration, it was said: O Messenger of Allah! Who is most deserving of my good companionship? He said: . He said: Then who? He said: . He said: Then who? He said: . He said: Then who? He said: .
So the believer strives to be dutiful to his parents, and he gives his mother special care, then the closest relatives, then the next closest, among his children, his brothers, his paternal uncles, his paternal aunts, his maternal uncles, and his maternal aunts, then the closest, then the next closest. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good, O Shaykh.
