Ruling on Cursing and Insulting Those Who Violate Traffic Regulations

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
In her second question, she says: I complain to you about the state of my father while he is driving his car. When a car makes a mistake toward him, or something else happens, he curses and insults the driver, and so on, to the point that mutual cursing is part of it. We ask your Eminence to give him some advice, perhaps he will listen to your Eminence.

Answer:
We advise all the brothers to be forbearing and patient, to endure and be gentle in driving, and to seek the causes of safety. If someone transgresses against him, we advise him to be gentle, forbearing, and patient, and to try to understand the transgressor, for perhaps he is overcome by his situation and it is not by his choice. So we advise everyone to be forbearing, to speak kindly, and to resolve problems in a good manner. This is the advice for everyone, for Allah loves that from His servants.
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Righteousness is good character
And He (Exalted and Majestic is He) said:
Indeed, Allah is with those who fear Him and those who are doers of good.
[Surat al-Nahl: 128] And He (Exalted and Majestic is He) said:
And the retribution for an evil act is an evil one like it, but whoever pardons and makes reconciliation - his reward is [due] from Allahوَجَزَاءُ سَيِّئَةٍ سَيِّئَةٌ مِثْلُهَا فَمَنْ عَفَا وَأَصْلَحَ فَأَجْرُهُ عَلَى اللَّهِ
[Surat al-Shura: 40] And He said:
And if you punish [an enemy, O believers], punish with an equivalent of that with which you were harmed. But if you are patient - it is better for those who are patient.
[Surat al-Nahl: 126] And He said:
And be patient, [O Muhammad], and your patience is not but through Allah
[Surat al-Nahl: 127].
So the believer seeks good, seeks patience, and learns to reward with good
but whoever pardons and makes reconciliation - his reward is [due] from Allahفَمَنْ عَفَا وَأَصْلَحَ فَأَجْرُهُ عَلَى اللَّهِ
[Surah al-Shura: 40] He seeks good, seeks patience, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Al-Wasil is not the one who recompenses the good done to him by his relatives, but Al-Wasil is the one who keeps good relations with those relatives who had severed the bond of kinship with him.
Sahih al-Bukhari 5991
.
So the one who does good, and the one who rewards evil with good, has a great rank and a great virtue. So Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) loves that His servants advise one another, enjoin truth upon one another, be patient, and deal with one another with gentleness, forgiveness, doing good, generosity, kindness, and reconciliation, as the Exalted said:
And settlement is better
[Surah al-Nisa: 128] And He said:
And do good; indeed, Allah loves the doers of good.
[Surah al-Baqarah: 195]. Yes.

The presenter: Shaykh Abdulaziz, many people are lax regarding cursing and insults. Do you have any guidance?

The Shaykh: Cursing and insulting are not permissible. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Cursing a believer is like killing himلعن المؤمن كقتله
And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The believer does not insult the honor of others, nor curse, nor commit Fahishah, nor is he foul.
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1977Hasan (Darussalam)
And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The cursers will not be witnesses, nor intercessors on the Day of Resurrection
Sahih Ibn Hibban 47:195
And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
it would be the first oneالمستبان ما قالا فعلى البادئ
Sahih Muslim 2587
Whatever they say, the sin is on the one who started it, unless he goes beyond... .
So it is obligatory for the believer to guard his tongue and beware of the evil of his tongue. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Cursing a Muslim is open sinfulness
"Sabb" means his cursing, and "Fusuq" means disobedience, exiting from obedience. So it is obligatory to beware of cursing, insulting, cursing, and bad speech. And it is obligatory for the believer to accustom his tongue to good speech, and to accustom himself to forbearance and patience. We ask Allah for guidance for everyone. Yes.

The presenter: O Allah, amen. May Allah reward you with good, Your Eminence.

The Shaykh: Allah is the Helper.

The presenter: Allah is the Helper.
